How to make Seagate ST3200822AS 200 GB Hard Drive into a slave drive
This is a SATA drive. SATA drives do not have a master/slave setting.
This is simpler than you think!
Install your SATA drive and reboot into the BIOS setup
Go to the Boot drive sequence window
Make any other drive the boot drive
At this point, you can select the SATA drive as the next boot drive, or set the sequence to "No other boot drives"
Re-bhoot .... SATA drive is now the D drive unless you change the drive letter in the disk manager
*done*
If you are using the drives in a fairly new computer, the drives have a setting called "cable select" If these are EIDE drives, then they have jumpers on a set of pins on the power side of the drive. Look on the drive and use the power plug as a reference for how the jumper fits on the pins to make the drive "cable select" and what that means is the drive will conform to which cable is plugged into it. If you have the slave cable plugged into the drive, that is how the motherboard will recognize it.
