According to Sears your model number is bad. Double check the number and they will have the owners manual with complete installation instructions.

I have a Craftsman garage door opener model # 139.18856. I have looked all over the internet and there are a few people calming to have the same motor and people are telling them that they don't exist. I have attached a photo of this motor with model number to show that yes craftsman did make this at one time. Having said that, Im having a similar problem as this guy. When I press the button to close the door, the light blinks 10 times and stays on on the tenth blink. The output sensor stays green and the receiving sensor only flashes green when you put something in front of it, then move it away. I have cleaned both sensors, nothing is blocking it and the wire's look ok. If it is a sensor problem, can i use any sensors or do I need the sensors that came with this model that never existed. Thanks, Sam

Garage door opener won't open or close door

The drive gear is stripped. Remove the cover and you can see it just in front of the motor. It is white nylon and the part number is 41A2817. Available from Sears or any good door opener service company. It will come with instructions.

Garage door will not open

You can fix this by loosening the chain enough that you can lift it off the sprocket. Then run the opener until the sprocket turns counterclockwise and stops. Now with the door in the open position replace the chain. This will get the chain running the right direction. You will have to adjust the open and close limits along with the force adjustments but that will all be covered in your owners manual.

Sears garage door opener, chain adjustment

Loosen the inner nut on the trolley. (That is the lock nut). Then tighten the outer nut on the trolley to increase tension. The outer nut on the trolley is closest to the garage door. The chain tension should be 1/2 inch off the rail at midspan. (The chain is fastened to a threaded bolt on to the trolley. The threaded bolt has an inner and outer nut). Hope this helps.
