I have a BG 55 Stihl gas blower that constantly dies after using for a few minutes. It starts fine and has plenty of gas. What is wrong with it?

Stihl 55 Blower, runs for 5 mins then bogs down and stalls. I have replaced fuel filter, fuel lines, air filter, carburetor and spark arrestor. I checked exhaust for blockages, still has the problem?

It is a fuel / air problem. Do you have a primer bulb, did you replace it and put it in the right way around arrow to the carb? It is a known issue. There are lots of help online and there are some videos below..

I don't have much experience with Stihl products but I do have a couple of disc cutters, both of which had a short life and suffered piston damage.

I suspect the air cleaner isn't as efficient as it should be.

Stihl BG 55 Blower Starter Rope Won't Pull.

indications are that there is insufficient oil in the mix and the ring has failed and jammed
you may have to pull it right down or simply junk it
if it has been discontinued then parts may also be scarce

It could be starving for gas at high rpm.
Check the plastic gas lines between the gas tank and the carburetor.
Replace if even the tiniest crack.

Will start with chock on but wont stay running with it off

the idle jet or the float valve is blocked
you need to strip the carb and unscrew the jets and clean them
i use small interdental brushes ...

Need to know the gas to oil mixture for a stihl bg 55 leaf blower,

2oz oil / 1gal gas is a good rich mix. you can go up to 2oz oil / 1 1/4 gal. gas. Use only good quality oil.

The BG55 model is prone to having the choke leaver rattle loose and vibrate itself on which will stall the engine.. have you noticed the choke leaver is in the on position when trying to restart it.

I have similar behavior. Starts, runs at idle or high speed, then just stops. I replaced the carb and gas line. Made fresh gas. Checked spark plug. I loosened the gas cap to check if venting was a problem. I removed the gas filter to see if that was the problem (have new gas and air filter on order). The screw in spark arrester is missing before we even got the blower.

Not sure what to try next.

Replaced gas filter and line, carb. Runs with full gas tank for about 10 mins, then starts to cut out; if I turn upside down, it runs another few minutes. Refill gas to top, repeat.
