Hello Billie
NO OS stated, is this OLD XP? new to you, or new w10./)
new means little, lacking what it is. new old stock is new too. see?
DV4000 + DSL.
DSL is the most hard of all, it takes a DSL password to work
here are the steps.
your ISP puts GEAR on your self. what do you have there.
we could never guess what they put there.
A DSL modem + rounter or just a modem and 1 LAN JACK
OR THAT AND ROUTER.
or an all in ONE (common today) DSL modem + built in 4 port LAN and a 2 antenna wifi.
the first and best way go get connected is LAN way.
buy a CAT5 lan cable sold in all stores that sell (PC) even wallmart has a 7ft cable next to the photo counter.
the plug that in to your (DSL boxes) unknown, by me.

the call you ISP and ask them to connect you.
If comcast call comcast if not call the folks you pay for this service.
do not try wifi until wired works first or this gets 10x more hard.
a simple page to get working quick,

SOURCE: internet connection not working

I have ATT DSL too.

Mine came with a Seimens SpeedStream 4100 ethernet ADSL modem. Did yours?
If not what is the manufacturer and model of the unit ATT sent?

Is it hooked up and working? If so continue.

IF you have a Seimens SpeedStream 4100 --

  • It has 3 connection on the back
  • one for power
  • one for a phone line (gray in my case)
  • with a separate gray cable
  • this is connected to the non phone side of a splitter
  • one for an ethernet (yellow in my case)
  • with a separete yellow cable
  • this may be loose to connect to your computer OR
  • connected to another device
  • IF connected to another device what is the manufacturers name and model for that device.
If ATT supplied a device other than a Seimens SpeedStream 4100
  • Is there anything other than a power adapter and a phone line attached to that unit now?
  • What is the manufacturers name and model for that device.
In terms of your ATT DSL service
  • How many devices do you intend to connect? Computers, game consoles, etc
  • How many connected by wire, if you know?
  • How many connected by wireless, if you know?
To you know if your DV4000 computer
  • has an ethernet connector?
  • has a wireless network adapter built-in?
  • IF not can can you look on the label on the bottom of your computer and tell me the full model number is. Please use this Model Link to help figure that out.
Do you have any devices such as a router, wireless router, wireless access point either already connected or to connect to your ATT DSL service?
Please identify the manufacturers name and model number for each device and whether or not it is connected and working.

With all the above I will know where to begin in the process of attaching your new computer to your ATT DSL service. Please add a comment to this issue with the necessary information -- I know it will be long. However you are the hands and eyes of this team and my questions are to get you to tell me things I would know if I was present and installing these devices.

I have an at&t 2wire 2701hg-b but i dont have at&t internet i have charter and i am not able to figure out how to get my internet to work with this router please help

att 2 wire is a Adsl Modem (Requires a telephone line jack to get the signals) but charter communication is a cable internet service (not DSL) , Requires a TV cable service for internet .
These two jacks differs and there working differs ..
Means : Att works with the username and password type of authentication but charter requires the MAC address of modem for authentication .
Therefore for a cable internet 2wire 2701hg-b modem cant be used . But yes in case charters has username and password authentication and works with the telephone jack in house then its possible to use the same modem.

ATT is your high speed internet provider and they supply you with 2wire DSL modem which has alot of power supply adapter going bad (you can Google 2wire AC dapter problem).
You can buy your own DSL modem but the key is the setting it up, it depends on how your ATT DSL system is setup, DHCP, PPOe, etc. What ever you do I hope you do have the user name and password that you may need to setup the new modem.
To explain exactly how here will take many many words and pages to explain, and without knowing your exact setup, it will be real difficult.
ATT does not care if you use your own DSL modem but they will not help you setting it up.
I would suggest you to get someone at school that knows a lot about computer, may be aks your school IT person to see if he/she can help you for free pizza.
I hope my explanation will help you out.

I got a compaq evo d510 refurbished and I have ATT extreem internet service and 2 wire router conected to comp with erthnet cable, It will not connect after installing att cd. It keeps trying to use dial...

Since you are using the Internet I must assume you are using the Dial up settings. I may expect that this AT&T service is DSL. In Internet Settings there is a tab marked "Connections" and the Dial Up settings are set to "Always Dial My Default Connection". Click on "Never Dial a Connection" and this problem should be solved. Next thing is to ensure that the DSL connection is connected properly since if this is not setup correctly you won't even get online until you reset the "Connections" tab to the original setting.

Help please

you can go to any wi-fi locations near your area and access the internet on your laptop. I think AT&T offers wi-fi access to its members on any of its designated hotspot /wifi locations (nearly 15,000 company-owned & roaming) e.g. McDonald's, Barnes & Noble bookstores, leading airports, coffee shops, etc. you can visit att.com and login to your account to find more details.
or call them at: 1-888-888-7520

you don't need to install any software/ dsl installation on your laptop when you are using a public wi-fi connection, just ensure that your computer firewall is on and take precautions when sending out any personal info online.

Cannot connect with ATT modem

Connect your pc to the ATT box. If online, check the ip address of the computer. If the ip address is 192.168.1.x, then you just have to change the router ip address. The wrt54g ip is 192.168.1.1, it may be having conflict with the ATT modem. Change the wrt54g ip to 192.168.2.1

Good Luck
