Canon ZR40 would not turn on

Our Canon mini DV ZR40 was used quite a lot for the first year, then we slowed down the usage, my last use was two years ago, seems the battery was not so good, so I had to have the power plugged in. After that, maybe a year later, I could no longer turn on the camcorder. Even with power plug-in, when turning it to "on", nothing happened. Does anyone have any idea what could be broken with my canon ZR40? Thanks in advance.

Thank you! But we did try that too, nothing happened still. Appreciate your help though.

I have the same problem. I purchased a new battery, charged it up per the instructions, installed it and nothing happens. Even the power light won't come on. The same holds true using the battery eliminator. Any suggestions? And, yes it is the correct battery, charger and eliminator.

The battery is probably so dead it is using all the power from the wall supply.  Remove the battery, and run only from the wall supply.

The best solution is to send the product back to the manufacturer for repair or replacement. If you have a receipt for the product and its within the warranty period (1 year) they will do this free of charge. I can help you with the process.

Can you copy your tapes to a computer?

Hello friend,
The Canon ZR40 Mini DV Camcorder has the port "Firewire" so you can copy your tapes to a computer. you will need to check your computer if it has also a firewire socket (All the new laptops have it).
You don't need any drive software, Windows has all the necessary drivers built in. You can use Windows Movie Maker for the capture, but if you want to burn your finished movies onto DVD then look at something like Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 which is one stop shop application (Capture, edit and burn). you can download a 30 days trial and try it out and see if it's what you want before buying it.

Canao zr40 dv camera

If the volume won't turn up there could be many problems her are the criteria for different answers:
• the volume 'wave' goes up like it should, but no sound comes out, no matter how loud you put it- the speaker has most likely been disconnected from the circuit board.
• you push the volume up/down button, but nothing happens, at all, not even the sound 'wave' The volume up/down button/switch has been disconnected

Last alternative guess that works for both:
the software doesn't recognize the pushing of the button.
how to fix, best buy, circuit city, they'll help you reconnect the wires, and maybe the software too.
if it is the speaker, try putting in a pair of headphones, if it has a headphone jack that is
