Sony KP61V80 while watching tv i heard a pop and the tv went off. i smelled a burning scent. and i have no picture or sound should i throw it away or is it worth fixin
This may be an easy problem to fix. If you heard a pop sound, it's possibly a burnt cap on the powersupply. Check caps C521, C522, C517 or any burnt caps on the RA-3 chassis. Obviously be careful when checking.

Sorry bad news these TV's work off of lights that shine thru the back of the screen if you heard a pop it was the power board that turns on those lights not an easy fix sorry.
hi,
Check the lamp of you tv. The lam is burned. that's why you heared a pop up sound and burning smell. Just check it and replace it. you will get the picture back.
ok
Hi, It seems lamp/ bulb popped again, check lamp inside tv. If tv does not show red blinking light then it would be lamp that knocked off, replace lamp in tv to fix its problem, please buy Sony original lamp for good picture in tv. Let me know if you have additional question. Thanks.
If there is no picture but sound is audible then replacing the projection lamp will do otherwise, the TV requires to be diagnosed for any other hardware damages.
Usually, yes. A bulb that has audibly 'popped' will be apparently bad if you pull it out of the TV (shattered). Other times this is a lamp ballast board.
heard a pop sound -- then the set went dead -- no lights, no nothing, and then there was a slight electrical burn smell coming from the back of the set :(
