My GE DBVH512EFWW dryer turns on but does not operate. The little control panel/screen says it is drying, but the drum is not turning. Does anyone know how this can be fixed?

  • wicklessjoni Sep 23, 2009

Is there a diagram I can look at to figure out how to remove the front and top? And, thank you very much for your advice!!

  • wicklessjoni Sep 26, 2009

We figured out how to take the top and front off. The belt was on and did go through what I believe is the tensioner and the motor pulley..just like the diagram we found in the dryer after taking it apart. Any other suggestions?

Your belt may be broken or it may have become separated from the tension device.

Remove the top and then the front of your machine. The drum will come away easily at this point and you will see the belt. Broken? replace it. Not broken? follow its path and make sure it goes through the tensioner and the motor pulley.

Let me know what you find.

I hope this is helpful.

Light inside works no power to panel

I didn't READ any fault in the machine?! It is "just" the Light remains on? Typically, when the dryer ends it's cycle as a safety feature the light will remain in the ON position for a brief period of time. The reason you get no working functions is because the safety feature is disallowing any unauthorized entry in the drum (Kids). The feature usually can be shut off by reading the owners manual. It can not be reset by unplugging the machine! That is the default setting

Dryer drum doesn't spin

If the motor runs and the drum doesn't turn then most likely the belt is broken.

My dryer wont start. When i turn the button to start it, it hums but wont run.

something is jamming the drum of the dryer from turning... remove the casing and take a closer look. There may also have been something recently dried which may have come out and jammed the dryer drum. Try hand turning the dryer drum to see... it should freely revolve at least a little bit
Good luck with it

The Problem - When I hit Start, the dryer does not start, I just hear a clicking sound. dbvh512efww does not start

Belt routing....http://www.applianceaid.com/images/belt-config.JPG

If you hear a loud bang while your dryer is working, and you notice that the
drum has stopped turning, chances are the drivebelt has snapped.
Fortunately, replacing the belt is a fairly straightforward operation that
can be handled with a few simple tools.
First, unplug the dryer. Lift the lint-screen cover and pull out the lint screen
If your dryer has a lint screen on the inside of the door, skip this step.
Then remove the two screws that are under the cover. To unlatch the dryer top,
insert a thin-blade putty knife between the top and front panel,
about 2 1/2 in. in from one corner. Push in on the knife to release the locking
clip, lift the corner, then release the clip on the other side. Swing the top
up and lean it against the wall.
Next, move to the lower toe panel. Slip the putty knife between the lower panel
and the door panel at one side and twist the knife to release the clip
Then release the opposite clip and lift the panel up and off the hinge springs.
To support the dryer drum while the belt is being replaced, place scrap wood
under the front of the drum.
Loosen the two screws at each side of the bottom of the front panel.
Move to the top of the panel and remove the screws from the inside of the
cabinet that hold the front panel to the sides.
Slide the old belt off the drum.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installing the belt
Lean the front panel out slightly and allow the drum to rest on the scrap wood
support. Drop the new dryer belt between the front panel and the drum, and
loop it over the drum. Then, lift the drum slightly while pushing the front
panel back into position.
Replace the screws at the top inside of the front panel, tighten the lower panel
screws and remove the scrap wood from under the drum. Check to make sure that
the rear drum seal fits properly over the lip on the rear bulkhead.
Position the new belt where the old belt was, with the grooved side of the belt
facing down.
Now, move to the motor area and pull out the old belt. To route the new belt
around the idler and drive pulley, first pass the entire belt, doubled up,
under the idler pulley. Then, push the idler belt toward the motor, slip the
belt around the motor pulley and release the tension on the idler pulley.

Open the dryer door and rotate the drum counterclockwise a few times to make
sure the belt is tracking properly. Lower the top and press down at each
corner to engage the clips. Lift the lint-screen cover, replace the two screws
and reinstall the lint screen. Finally, secure the lower front panel and turn
on the dryer for a test.

How install a drive belt on GE Dryer DBVH512EFWW.

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Phillips screwdriver
  1. Unplug the dryer and open the dryer door.

  2. Unscrew the screws under the top lip, where the dryer's door closes, with your screwdriver. Once these screws are removed, lift the top off of the dryer. On older models, the entire top will hinge upward out of the way, and on models made after 1997, half the top will pull off.

  3. Remove the screws on the inside-top corners of the front panel so the front panel of the dryer can be removed and set aside. On models made before 1997, the front panel should be carefully set to the right side; on newer models, the panel should be set to the left side of the machine. Be careful not to damage the door-control wires.

  4. Locate two screws approximately 6 inches off the floor on each side and remove them, allowing you to push the sides of the dryer slightly apart so the drum can be removed. Pull the drum slightly toward you and reach around to remove the dryer belt from the motor pulley. If the belt is broken, this step should not be necessary. Once the belt has been removed from the motor pulley, the drum should pull up slightly and out of the dryer toward you.

  5. Remove the old dryer belt and put the new one in place, with the ribs of the belt facing the drum. The slack part of the belt should be placed near the motor. Reverse the previous directions to replace the drum, replace the screws that hold the sides in place, replace the front and replace the top.

  6. Pull the dryer out from the wall and remove the four screws holding in the panel near the bottom of the back of the dryer. You will see the motor, the drum and the belt you just set in place. Loop the belt around the motor pulley and the idler pulley, and turn the drum by hand to make sure that the belt is straight and will stay in place. Screw the panel back on and push the dryer back into place against the wall.

Having to dry more than one time

CHECK THAT THERE IS NO BUILDUP OF LINT IN THE BLOWER TUBE. PULL OF THE VENT TUBE(HOSE) THAT GOES OUTSIDE AND OPERATE THE DRYER. IF THE FLOW OF AIR SEEMS LOW THEN IT MAY BE CLOGGED. DRYERS OFTEN GET CLOGGED WITH LINT AND THUS INCREASING THE DRY TIME DRAMATICALLY. YOU CAN REMOVE THE VENT TUBE FROM THE BACK AND VISUALLY INSPECT THE INNER TUBE TO SEE ANY OBSTRUCTIONS. UNPLUG THE DRYER FIRST. IF YOU ARE BRAVE YOU CAN PUT YOUR HAND IN AND FEEL INSIDE ALSO. OR SEND YOUR VACUUM HOSE IN THERE TO TRY TO **** OUT ANY EXCESS LINT.

Ge dryer

The door is interlocked to stop the drum from turning and.or causing an injury to anyone opening it.. The timer is the control system that switches the drier and heater on to dry clothes but it does that by energizing a relay /contactor.. You probably have a bad relay or your timer is bad and not de-energizing that relay to stop the cycle... If you provide specific model number of your GE dryer.. that might help in diagnosing your problem...

Have to dry close twice on automatic, or once on timed. Random triple beeps.

Sounds like the drum belt has broken. It's connected around the drum and motor pulley. Without the belt turning the drum it will be near to impossible to dry the clothes, Hope this helps, Sea Breeze
