You will need to contact a service tech in your area to do this. They should have a special programmer box that can adjust the settings on the chair to improve the chairs performance.
Here's your M51 manual: http://www.invacare.com/doc_files/1125085J.pdf
Trouble codes start at p25.
Also, Invacare is proud of the M51's wet-weather performance (check the "Rain Test" chapter in the manual. You might have a warranty issue. Check with an Invacare dealer.
This power chair takes 2, U-1 batteries.
The owner's manual can be found at the following link. The pictures and instructions for changing the batteries is on pages 55 to 57: http://www.invacare.com/doc_files/1148076.pdf
Hope this helps.
Power chairs are not designed to operate while they are plugged into the charger, as it will drag the charger around or you may run over the cord, therefore most power chairs have an inhibit feature that prevents the power chair from moving while it is connected to the charger. If you saw sparks from the joystick, something has shorted out the controller; moisture or condensation may have gotten into the controller or there may have been a manufacturing defect. I do not think there is anything you can do at this point except to contact the manufacturer or the place where you purchased the power chair to arrange a service call and replacement of the joystick/controller. If your insurance bought the power chair for you they may cover the repair if it is not covered by the warranty. Good luck!
Hi I really don't know the cost of the brake because it depends where you get it. You can contact Invacare tech support @ 1-800-333-6900 and ask about the brake and the cost With some chairs the brake is part of the motor and can't be sold seperately. Did Medicare buy your chair? If so they will pay for the repair. If they did contact Repair Xpress @ 1-877-581-3733 or Roadrunner Mobility @ 1-800-467-2668 and ask to get your chair repaired. Even if Medicare Didn't pay for your chair both of these Services can quote you a cost of repair Hope this helps
