sounds like the door switch is broken,good thing it broke in the running position or the dryer wouldn't start.that isn't a good model number either,open the door look around the opening where you put the clothes in and you should see a tag with the model number,you'll need that to order the door switch.the dwjr comes up but not the rest if this is a ge dryer.
The drum on the dryer is powered by an ac motor. You cannot change its direction of rotation by changing lead connections. AC has no positive or negative leads. It must be OK as is

If the heating element is getting very hot that means there is no air flow across it. If the drum doesn't turn then the blower is not turning causing the element to get very hot. Could be drum belt, drum rollers, or motor.
