Samsung dlp 50" light engine

I'm told by a tech I need a light engine (HLR5067WAX). Repair quote was $1000.00. Do I have any cheaper options. Can I get part # and repair myself. Thanks, Fred

I have an 2005 model Samsung HL-5078W DLP big screen and replaced the bulb a few years back. The set stopped working again a week ago (black screen) so I thought it was the bulb. It already had the DLP "shadow issue". Once again replaced the bulb but, not the bulb this time! Even with a new bulb it just makes a humming sound. I suspect the light engine is bad. Is this really worth replacing or should I just buy new?

Hi,
I noticed your post in searching for a solution for my Toshiba 62HM195 DLP which I have been told is a bad light engine and I posted images a while back.  I have ordered the part which is on its way.  Do you know anything about this product?

On the right side of your set ( as your facing the television), is a small sticker with a model, serial, and version of your set.
If the version is: The engine Part number is:
PU01 BP96-01018J
PW02 BP96-00822L

The engine replacement is not bad, two screws and about four or five wire harnesses need to be unplugged (most have a push tab that needs pushed in to help remove it) before it is pulled out.
Put the new engine in the reverse order.

If you have any questions or need additional help, respond to this post and I will reply.

Samsung, DLP TV 50 inches Model # HL-T5075X/XAA

Samsung just told me they wouldn't fix my tv because it was produced in Nov. of '06 and the only ones they would fix were made in August of '06 or earlier. I am way too angry right now to call the service tech number they so very nicely provided.

I took my samsung 50" DLP TV model # HLR5067W to a repair shop and they said my digital board is bad. I also called Samsung and my warranty was up and they said I was basically SOL. Where can I get a...

First thing is look at the model number of the TV and make sure of the complete model number. For instance there are 2 versions of this model requiring 2 digital board numbers. If your model is just HLR5067W the part number is BP94-1858A if the model is HLR5067WAX the part number is BP94-02084A. I bet yours will be the later of the 2 since that is a high failure version. They are NOT cross compatible. The parts you can purchase from Samsung at http://www.samsungparts.com

Samsung rear projection tries three time then goes

There are several things in this set that will cause this. I have ran into this problem 40-50 times on that specific unit. Most common problem is the lamp. Next most common problem is the DMD board which is a very expensive repair. Next most common cause is the ballast which powers the lamp. Next is the color wheel but usually that gets noisey before it fails. These DLP televisions aren't easy to diagnose but they're easy to work on. Now here's the thing, all four of these problems can be solved by replacing the light engine. If you are willing to put some money into it, the engine assembly is real easy to change. Just google the exact and complete model number and search prices of the light engine. I'm pretty sure the part number is BP96-00305J. Sometimes you can actually ship the engine from your tv in to be rebuilt. This can save you money. Any repair on this tv will probably cost 200-500 but they get a great picture. I have a samsung DLP in my livingroom. Good luck, Russmann.

Samsung HLN 4365 wxixaa with Light engine failure????

When the tech said light engine what he ment was DMD board, the DMD board is the most important component on the light engine and most expensive, but still a lot cheaper then the entire light engine.

The DMD board can definetly, and often does cause intermitant errors. Your problem is absolutely not the Ballast, all the ballast is supply the power to turn on the lamp.

Your tech was right to go to the DMD board, the only other option that it could be is a digital board, you would have to see if it is doing this on all inputs.

Samsung 50" DLP Lamp died, new lamp will not light`

Bad news.  Mine did the same thing.  Mine is the 61", but the internals are basically the same.  I replaced the lamp and the problem was fixed.  Then after a couple days, it died again.  I replaced the ballast, to no avail.  Took it to the certified repair center and they said I needed a new DLP Light Engine.  They wanted $1250 to fix it, but I was able to order one online from partstore.com for $700 and fixed it myself.  No problems since.
Your certified repair center will charge a minimal fee to diagnose and then you can fix it yourself if you choose.
The easist fixes for the lamp problems are A) replacing the bulb and B) replacing the ballast.  Anything else, you'll want a certified tech to diagnose the problem.

Closed caption

You have to activate the closed caption option on your charter cable box. Power off your cable box and immediately push the menu button. A menu should appear where you can toggle captioning on/off. Good luck!

Dlp problem

The unit has a defective light tunnel contained within the light engine. This part is not easily replaced and you will a qualified tech to replace it. Many service centers condemn the light engine at a much hight cost. Do not buy or let someone tell you the light engine must be replaced. This repair requires only the light tunnel.

Samsung DLP HL-P5063W. . .no lamp!

You will need to have it diagnosed if you do not have the service manual, or the knowledge of how these circuits work. I can tell you to replace this or that but it would be a guess! You need to start measuring the voltages on the ballast circuit, as I have seen door switches, fan sensors, heat sensors cause all of your symptoms as well. Good Luck
