4 year old fridge, GE Model GSH22KGMD WW - side by side, has worked perfectly until two days ago.
It has two dials labeled 1-9 one for freezer side one for fresh food
side. Freezer section was on 3, fresh food on 6 when it started acting
up. Both were set to 9 when the food section was noticed as too warm.
The freezer side is reaching 0 degrees F and holding it OK.
No dust accumulation on coils in the back of the fridge.
No blockage of the air flow underneath or behind fridge.
No blockage of the two passageways between freezer and fresh side (one
has an electrically controlled door up at the top that was SHUT when
checked, one has a manually adjusted round hole (down by the bottom
drawer)
The fan in the freezer side is blowing (so apparently not in defrost mode)
No frost build up found anywhere in freezer area.
The fresh food side is staying right around 45 - 50 F with both dials set at 9 24 hours plus.
I unplugged it yesterday and plugged it back in, same problem persisted.
I removed the cowling on the cold air pass through at the top and
noticed that the little door was closed. Propped it open with a piece
of plastic and let it run overnight. Fresh food side still would not go
below 45 F with the door held open all night.
With that door held open and the freezer set at 9 / max and holding 0
F, shouldn't the fresh food side eventually get well below 45 F if the
freezer side is hitting ZERO F? ( It was maintaining sub 40 F
previously on fresh food side, and would freeze the fresh food side if
set too high (past about 6.)
We site diagnostics pages say it probably needs a new logic board but I
would at least like to be able to keep the fresh food from spoiling
while waiting for a new board. Is the cold air supposed to flow through
that pass through door enough to be felt? I can't feel any passage of
air through there ever even when the fan in the freezer section is
running.
