How do I turn on my MSI laptop, model #MS-16GN? It's my 13 year old daughter's and I need to monitor.

If you mean set up parental controls, you need to have an account on the laptop under your name with your own password (the next bit s taken directly from Microsoft)

Open Parental Controls by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, clicking Control Panel, and then, under User Accounts, clicking Set up Parental Controls.? 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b.png If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click the standard user account for which you want to set Parental Controls. (this will be your daughters account)

Under Parental Controls, click On.

Once you've turned on Parental Controls for your child's standard user account, you can adjust the individual settings that you want to control. You can control the following areas:
  1. Web restrictions. You can restrict the websites that children can visit, make sure children only visit age-appropriate websites, indicate whether you want to allow file downloads, and set up which content you want the content filters to block and allow. You can also block or allow specific websites. For more information, see Limit the content that children can view on the web.

Time limits. You can set time limits to control when children are allowed to log on to the computer. Time limits prevent children from logging on during the specified hours and, if they are already logged on, they will be automatically logged off. You can set different logon hours for every day of the week. For more information, see Control when children can use the computer.

  2. Games. You can control access to games, choose an age rating level, choose the types of content you want to block, and decide whether you want to allow or block unrated or specific games. For more information, see Specify which games children can play.

  3. Allow or block specific programs. You can prevent children from running programs that you don't want them to run. For more information, see Prevent children from using specific programs.

With XP, all you can do is set up content adviser, which is a bit limited
To do this: Control panel / Internet options / Content / Content Advisor / Then in the box that appears, set the level of safety

How do i setup my router to shut down the udp port at a certain time....xbox live is what i'm trying to control

Your router does not have the advanced features that would be needed to do this. However, this can be controlled using parental controls on xbox live. Here is a link: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/familysettings/xbox360/familysettings-intro.htm

Restricted time access.

i dont think this router has that facilty only to schedule to local netwrotk using virtual server - advanced tab

you could buy a timeswitch - one that plugs into a standard socket and you plug the router into the time switch and set the times you want it on

Restrict the router to specific times

First off thanks for choosing fixya.com for help.

It does not look like this router offers parental control features. However, you can install a "Net Nanny" application that will allow you to restrict the time your kids are online.

The other option and much cheaper is to label which cable is your sons going into the router and unplug it at the given time.

If you have an older computer laying around that you can spare, you can also use IPCOP or SMOOTHWALL firewalls to limit time on the internet. These devices are free and offer a ton of features.
However they require a dedicated computer and will remove any data on the hard drive of that machine.

Your easiest bet would be "Net Nanny" software. Vista has parental control settings in it, but its for the whole computer (meaning it will turn off the computer) and not just the internet.

Hope this helps you in some way.
