I have a Tom Tom XL IQ Route/XL Classic which is 1 month old. When I switched it on it came up with a blue screen , picture of Tom Tom in left top corner and on the right a white cross flashing on a red...

the problem it has is the software seems to either have a problem or the mapping itself is the problem, if you bought the device brand new from a shop like halfords, then you will have the TomTom 1 year warranty, but you need your reciept for it to be authorised.
if you have done a back up of the device previously on tom tom home then you can format it and it may back up ok.

alternatively go into any Halfords or other store and speak to the specialists and they'll give you any info they can give.

Can't get it to start up. It stays on screen showing the GPS with a cord on it but won't start up. Have tried resetting numerous times and charging it.

tomtom3rdedition just get red flashing cross.

I think I deleted the actual program on my tom tom ONE 130! It will only give me an orange screen with a red X and a flashing disk in the bottom left hand corner now. What can I do to fix this?! ?!

If you wisely made a backup of your device using 'Tom Tom Home', use the 'RESTORE' option!

Otherwise try 'Tom Tom Home' while connected to the Internet and select 'Update' my One: it should re-load and update all missing components (including the MAP) that your machine is allowed to have.

Connect it to a computer and reinstall the software from the CD that came with the box.

My tom tom will not activate

try to reset the unit. There is a small hole on the bottom of the unit, insert a small pin on the hole and hold it for a couple of seconds and it will reset it, you might loose the addresses saved so you might want to copy them before resetting it.

try the "secret" reset button

I think most or all tomtoms have this button that needs a pin sticking in it? Worth a go anyway!

I used my tom tom to direct me to an address and when i got there turned the engine off the screen is black with to red hands and tom tom at the bottom when i press the on or off button nothing works when...

that sounds like there is something stuck in the edges of the touchscreen...

try & run a toothbrush or your finger nail or a piece of paper flat against the screen & run it 360 around the edges of the screen...

Failing that buy another faulty one with different issues from an auction site & chop & change the faulty parts.

as you are out of warranty it wont matter.

Remove the SD card
The card needs to be formatted properly first that's all,

formatting is better done in a card reader.

Right click on it and select format select FAT32 as the files system

Now connect the tomtom but don't let tomtom home run. exit TTH if need be.

You now ned to select your tom tom which will also show as a drive.

In windows explorer select tools then folder options. Click view and tick the box for "show hidden files and folders"
It may warn you but you can ignore it.

Then just copy ALL the files from the tom tom to your sd card

DO NOT USE CUT AND PASTE !

Once all the files are on switch off the tom tom and insert the sd card

It should now work
