I recently purchased a slightly used 9.9 hp yamaha 4 stroke outboard. The problem is that it is extremely difficult to start. How can I reduce this difficulty?

This may sound funny, but for a while, Yamaha put a steel bolt in the aluminum casing on the side of the motor. dissimilar metals caused extreme corrosion inside that affected operation. Check out Boating forums on Yamaha.

Every year or once every 50 hours. Use only fully synthetic gear oil. Fill from the bottom drain screw until oil comes out upper screw. Put in upper screw and then lower screw.
