You may be experiencing "lint scorch", which is a prelude to a lint fire, or you may have a drum seal that came loose from the bulkhead and dropped onto the heater shroud. Ascertain that your external vent is clear to the outside, including the vent hood. That's about all I can think of to look for that would give off that kind of odor. Different things can cause different odors, so you may have to more investigating if you are unable to ascertain the cause. Do not let this issue drop as a foul odor usually means trouble.
