Fan in freezer not working

When does the fan inside the freezer run? I've noticed the fan blade has not moved in a while. I can spin the fan by hand but the motor does not appear to be working. Is the motor bad?

There should be a switch on the door frame so every time you open the door it switches of the fan,if there is not then check the power supply if theres power to the fan then yes the motors bad..

If this is a F22CW commercial unit, in most commercial freezers, the evap fan is controled by a fan delay "Klixon" type switch. It usually does not let the fan operate untill the evap gets to about 20 degrees. It is located in the evap casing, usually attached to the evap on the end "U" turns. Check this out. It may either be bad or the temp is not being reached to turn the fan on.
Hope this helps.

Another thing to consider is the possibilty that the fan could be controled by the door switch. It may kill the fan and bring on the light when the door is opened.

It runs when the compressor runs except when it's in the defrost cycle. If you have an electronic control instead of a defrost timer the control could be the problem since it runs the fans. You can test the evaporator fan. See how here> How to check everything

LG LFX33975ST French Door Refrigerator, 32.5 cu. ft. Which fan is making noise?

Question edited for clarity, MAKER.
Question moved to Model Category.

Your fridge freezer has three fans.

The compressor evaporator fan cuts in and out as required to maintain temperature.

The fridge evaporator circulation fan runs to maintain an even temperature. It stops when to open the door and resumes when you close it and stops when the set temperature is reached as long as the compressor isn't running. If the compressor is running, the fan normally runs to prevent icing which happens slowly.

The freezer also has a fan, and that runs pretty much all the time unless target temperature is met and the compressor is not running. This fan runs when you open the door to stop the moist air from the room freezing on contact to the 0'F, -18'C evaporator fins. The fan keeps the air moving to deposit less frost.

It sounds like your is running normally except for the noise. Trace the noise and find it. The compressor fan has a Shark Paper fibre board cover and these often distort over time and touch the fan blades. That is the common cause. The less common cause is the internal fans pinging off built up ice that should have been removed during the defrost cycle.

RF267aewp french door refrigerator is acting crazy. Sometimes compressor fan runs, sometimes it doesn't same with freezer fans. Front control panel will not respond so I cannot get into diagno

Had same problem on my fridge a long time ago. Here is what was wrong on mine. Debris had clogged up around the fan blades to the point where the very small motor that runs the fan was not powerful enough to make the fan turn. When this happens the compressor has to work harder and harder until it finally shut down on safety cutout. I had to open the back of the fridge and clean up the fan blades, [ took the opportunity to put a small amount of oil on the fan shaft too, my Norge fridge is now over 50 years old.]

How often does the fan rotate? and if the the fan is the problem would that stop the fridge and freezer getting cold?

If the fan is not moving you are not going to get cold air into your refrigerator section and it will start getting warmer. I would suggest pulling the fan out and if you have a way of checking it, try to run it outside the refrigerator. Most fans will run almost constantly except when the freezer is in defrost mode. More than likely though, from what it sounds like, you will probably end up replacing that fan motor.

Your Question hi i have a caravell 306995 freezer and the fan on bottom stopped working. i try to help the blade to spin but it'll spin for a minute then stop. it looks like it wants to spin but itll...

You can try and oil it if it has oilers on it...... or try and spray some WD40 right where the shaft comes out of the motor....If you can't get the motor to start then you may have to unload the freezer if you can't find a new motor to replace the bad one. good luck.....

We have a True TS-49F freezer that the interior fan have stopped working. Holding the door switch does not activate them. Unit is out of warranty.

Most all commercial freezers like yours have, what is called, a fan delay. It is located in the evaporator case and is usually attached on or very close to the actual cooling coil. It may also be a combination switch known as a defrost terminator/ fan delay. It's purpose is to keep from circulating warm air. If the cooling coil does not reach a preset temp, the fans do not come one. Another thing is that the fan motor may just be bad. If you have more than one fan, then chances are that it's going to be the fan delay. I would start there to see that either the fan delay switch is bad or there is a reason that the coil is not getting cold enough to activate the switch.

I turned the power on my freezer as now we decided to use it , before it was working fine it became very hot inside and the fan on the top didnot start?

Too many things can go wrong, but try this first, The fan on the top must be turning got the unit to work. Sometimes when a unit sits up for a while the fan bearings freeze up. Try trurning the fan with your hand of a screwdriver if it has a shroud around the fan. It may start moving and ususally when it does it will be arright after that. The inside will be hot because it will go into a defrost cycle 3 or 4 times a day and that puts a lot of heat inside the unit. Also the door frames are heated. Check to see if the compressor is running. If it is the small copper line going over tt the fan will be very hot. If not its not running. Co to start with clean the radiator coils on the outside and make sure the fan by the compressor is running.

Meat in freezer is frozen but ice cream and pop-sicles are soft and mushy

Most likely your condensing coils are dirty, or the condensing fan motor is not running. Pop the cover off the bottom of the fridge and look in there and see if coils are dirty. Clean off coils with coil brush, vac or coil cleaner. Also feel around the doors. Is it hot to the touch. If so these are the two causes. If Condensing Fan motor is not running then replace it. Some times the blade can be stuck on something. ( I have found a few with mice ) Clear problem and spin the blade. If it runs then you need not replace motor. You may need to replace blade if it is bent and not turning freely.

Side by side fridge not cooling, not making ice

if it seems like the evaporator is getting cold then your sealed system should appear to be ok. you need the evap fan to transfer cold air into fresh food section. if not turning u need to replace fan motor. make sure your not getting to much frost build up on the evap.

Maytag upright freezer model MQU1556AEW

I experienced the same problem last week with my freezer. Apparently the change in temperature during defrosting allows the blade locking mechanism to slide on the motor shaft during the spinning operation. The blade pulls itself along the shaft until it comes in contact with the motor mounting bolt. If your freezer just stops getting super cold, but remains cool and you don't hear the fan spinning, remove the inside back panel and check the fan blades for freedom of movement. I almost disposed of the freezer this past week but decided to make one last check of the mechanisms.
