No matter what setting I put my Sansung LCD HDTV on, some shows don't fit the screen. For example, I was watching an HD football game, in the 4:3 mode it was a square picture with major wide black on both sides, and in every setting I either had black on the sides or on the top, there was one setting where the picture filled the screen, however, once they showed the score I realized the top part of the screen where the score info was had been cut off, so I arrowed down (which is the Samsung feature to help a picture fit, I guess) anyway, then once I had it to where I could see the top of the picture with the score, then it cut off the bottom where they run the "ticker tape" information. I cannot find any setting to where the whole picture shows, unless I have empty black space. Everyone else in my family has plasma and LCD tvs and they do not experience this problem. This is the first time we have had an HDTV. I get my programming through Dishnetwork and have the package which include HD programming. Can anyone tell me what to do so my picture fills the screen but doesn't cut anything off? We did not buy the cheapest model, and in fact, my nephew bought the cheaper model Samsung, but Plasma, and he does not experience this problem at all.
I read suggested solution (1) and called our cable company. Here the problem wasn't with our tv but with the cable box settings. Thank you bids804 for suggesting that the cable box aspect ratio should be looked at. I had no idea that the cable box settings could be wrong.I read suggested solution (1) and called our cable company. Here the problem wasn't with our tv but with the cable box settings. After searching around on both remotes for me...im with verizon. Using my verizon remote under... settings-video settings-sd override...then into stretch mode fixes problem! Hope this helps anyone else with same problem!
You have to set your TV Ratio and TV Resolution on both your Cable box and your TV..the new smart LED Tv's automatically do it for you. at least mine did
I know this post is old, but did you ever find a solution? I'm having this exact same problem with the exact same t.v. I've done everything recommended but parts of the screen are still off the t.v. Entire characters, words, scenery... I need help!!!

If all your wanted is to widen the picture then just push aspect or format on your remote control and put it on either 16:9 or full. But if your referring to HD then an HD picture fills the screen by itself no matter what setting you have the tv set to. If the screen isnt full then the program your watching isnt broadcasting in HD at that time. A common misconception is that because its an HD tv or an HD channel that it always should show in HD. This isnt true. It goes by the broadcast
Sounds like your cable box is zoomed in, I run into this a lot when running service calls. On most cable provider's remotes there is an 'aspect' button next to or around the '0'. Try that and see if it helps you out at all :)
This is most likely a setting on your TV, like stretch, or fit, or possibly on your cable box, or dish receiver. look at your dish or cable box settings and turn off any screen adjustments. Example under wide screen setting is strech , zoom, letterbox (choose letterbox).
The TV has these settings as well.
it indicates that the problem is aspect ratio or pixel settings for thescreen
bring up the on screen menu and adjust the pixel setting to fit the screen or the apsect ratio to fit the screen
read the operators manual to see how the adjustments are made
the monitor gets the wrong signal from the computer (refresh rate too high or scan rate too high ) check the screen refresh rate from Display properties / Settings tab / Advanced button / Monitor settings worse case: damaged hardware
I started reading the manual with your question in mind, but I found that the instructions for screen controls take up about 40 pages.
I'll just put the URL for the owners manual here instead. That way you'll have all the information you should ever need for making adjustments. ;)
