I have a John Deere L120 riding mower with a 22 hp Briggs & Stratto v-twin with approx 260 hrs on it. It has been smoking & using around a 1/2 quart of oil for about the last 100 hrs. of use.Would like to know if it's a valve seal problem or do I need to re-ring it. Please email me at [email protected]. Thank you, Mike.

I have a L120 and I am having gas problems. I changed the fuel filter and the gas pump. Mower runs for a while about 5 min. then starts to die. Put choke on full and it just lets it run standing idel only for a bit then dies. Any solutions here?

Solution #2 has a pinched fuel line between fuel tank and frame.First post should do a cylinder leakdown and that would give you a very good idea on seals or rings.

John deere L120 riding mower with IntekV twin 22hp

Try replacing the gas in the fuel system. The manufacturers are telling us that gas over 30 days is considered bad gas.

Briggs & Stratton Briggs Stratton Intek V - Twin Vertical engine 24hp,48in riding lawn mower, keeps smoking.

these are common for doing this ,if you dont want to pull it down and hone the cyl. then i would use a heavier oil say 20w/50and that will probabley solve your problem

John Deere L120 appears to run out of gas

This is the most common problem with the L120 I'm told. The pin hole in the gas cap needs cleaning (top and underneath as well). I have replaced mine twice already and have only 140 hrs. on it. Starts right up after cleaning. (My symptoms were identical to yours)

Here is a link to John Deere website for this model, it states that it has a 16 amp charging system. It also has the phone numbers listed for contact, and requesting the manuals for this mower.
