Greetings,

When you upgrade your computer to Windows XP, you may receive an error message that is similar to one of the following: C0000221 (Bad Image Checksum)
-or- STOP: C0000221 - Bad Image Checksum in ModuleName
-or- STOP: C0000221 - Bad Image Checksum. User32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header check sum does not match the computed check sum.

Checksum

This may help. If you can't identify the file or program, then use MSConfg. Go to Start > Search. Type MSConfig. Go to the startup tab and disable as many items as possible. Not to worry, the apps are still there and critical items will load anyways. Plus this will make you pc load and run faster.

My inspiron mini won't boot up,I just get a black screen and it says the file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum

Oh wow, and I bet that lil netbook does not have a cd drive, huh? Now you're kinda up the creek without a paddle.

Run the Check Disk utility but you need a drive to do it.
To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

File is corrupt. the file header checksum does not match the computed checksum

The file is damaged and cannot be accessed. If the file is on the hard disk, then a fresh/new copy needs to be copied onto the hard disk.

File header checksum does not match computed one. ???

You have one or more critical corrupted file/s which prevents the laptop from booting up.
To get the laptop operating again, you need to insert the Windows Vista CD and do a Repair and if this fails you need to install Vista again.

Hard Drive will not boot in Compaq Presario C700

BIOS checksum errors occurs when either the BIOS chjp is faulty or most likely the BIOS battery is nearly flat and the stored info changes and doesn't match the checksum info.
Replace the battery with a new one, leave the battery out for 1/2 hour before inserting the new battery. The BIOS will be reset to the default settings, you need to configure it again eg, datr and time etc.
