Hi,
I have found the information you requested in a pdf format of the user manual. It is on page 128 of the user manual. It is very hard to tell you what button to push as I don't have one of those camera's in front of me. Here is a link for the user manual. Once to get to page 128 you should be able to see how to format your memory card. If you look at the pdf guide it is listed on the left side of the page under "playback menu" From there you can advance to page #128 and go from there. I sure hope this will help you get this fixed. Best wishes.

With my Nikon Coolpix I can copy pictures to my PC but can't copy pictures from my PC to the camera/card. I have an Sony Cybershot which I can copy pictures both directions - very convenient. What's...

How are you attempting to copy picx to the card? Nikon Transfer doesn't have any means for this, but you should be able to do it using your computer's operating system.

Camera does not show taken ( saved) pictures

problem is in memory card...i think. try with cleaning memory card contacts. use pure alcohol and small piece of cotton to clean dust or other dirt. if this not help, try some card reader to transfer images from camera to PC. try also with some other camera. it's possible memory card is damaged and you can't do nothing. try reinstall nikon software on your PC.

Taking a photo of the family, delaying the camera until I can get into the shot.

Sure, follow these steps...
  • Set everyone in an even composition, close together, maybe some standing, some sitting, whatever strikes you as a good picture.
  • Put the camera on a tripod or other tall article
  • Press the Mountain/Macro/Timer button until the (clock/timer) icon is displayed on the viewer. The button to press is just above the MF (Manual Focus letters)
  • Press the shutter button all the way down to activate the timer.
    • Press once for ten-second delay
    • Press twice for three-second delay
    • Press a third time to stop the timer
  • Jump into the shot! =)
The lamp next to the lens will start to blink and continue until one second before the picture is taken. The lamp will then stay solid during the last second to warn about the picture being taken.

Image rings when using Coolpix for microscopy

Under some circumstances when using the Coolpix 4500 attached to a microscope concentric rings are visible as in the below. The COOLPIX 4500 aspherical lens surface is ground to create the ideal curves to gather rays at the focal point with an extremely high accuracy. Such minute lines are not visible in the image taken with a camera alone, however if the camera is used with a microscope, the lines become visible as the depth of field is increased due to the combined F numbers of the camera lens and microscope lenses.
