If you don't want to install those updates you should have switch off your automatic updates. the problem is the your computer might not be compaitble with the update which was sent to you.XP SP3 have a higher system and hardware requirements than xp sp2. in order to resolve your problem you need to run your xp sp2 and press repair instead of format in this way it can return to your original system. you can also try the system restore press the start, all programs look for the system tools then system restore check what date you installed this sp3 then select the day before you installed this in order for you to return to your original operating system. hoping that this will help you, expecting your positive response.

If you do a new, clean install of XP in 2018, one would be missing hundreds of updates from Microsoft that would be very hard if not impossible to get. Some of those updates might apply to software that you want to use in conjunction with Windows XP. And if it is an older PC, you might not be able to find driver support for the particular make/model, and XP might not have the drivers you need. How many times have you heard someone say, "I just reinstalled XP, but now I am missing drivers?"

This could be part of your trouble, because even if your XP updated all the way up to April 2014, you could still be missing HP updates provided by HP/Microsoft through Windows Update.

Since Microsoft has not supported XP since April 2014, I would recommend not using it anymore in 2018.

I've been trying to update a workstation at the workplace with XP SP3. It stops approx 60% through where it indicates "running processes after install". How do I go about installing SP3 on this computer?...

The best way is to do a Repair install (this way all the older updates that now are blocking the upgrade will be bypassed) then allow it to fully update itself.

Service pack 2 for xp crashes the system

Access http://www.microsoft.com/downloads
and download XP Service Pack 3, and install it.

It is *NOT* necessary to install SP2 _before_ installing SP3.

After installing, run Windows Update (for another 80+ updates issued since SP3 was issued).

On March 6, 2008 Microsoft released Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. Service Pack 3 contains all of the important Windows updates from previous service packs as well as additional updates that were released after Service Pack 2. To install Windows XP Service Pack 3 from the Internet on a home desktop computer use the Windows Update feature. CAUTION: If you have an HP Pavilion, HP Media Center or Compaq Presario desktop computer that has an AMD processor, your PC might encounter a startup problem after installing SP3 (or SP3 will not download from Windows Update). Before attempting to install SP3, install sp37394 - Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Upgrade Utility for systems with AMD processors . Problem in office 2007 setup

HI Deb,
You will need to update windows to service pack3 first. Then once completed click "start" and open "control panel" and then "Add Remove programs-software" Scroll through list of installed software and identify all and only the office related components "select" each component individually then click "remove/uninstall" Remove all previous installed office components, starting with the smallest sized file to the largest, once completed restart your machine and try the office install disk again. See below for service pack three download info and links:

Download the service pack manually You can use Windows Update or the Microsoft Download Center to obtain Windows XP SP3 online. Check for updates on Windows Update loadTOCNode(4, 'moreinformation'); To check for updates on Windows Update, follow these steps:

  2. Click Express (Recommended).
  3. If your computer is up to date, Windows XP SP3 will be one of the updates that is automatically selected. Click Install. If your computer is not up to date, Windows Update will offer some other updates that you have to install first. Install those, and then repeat steps 1 and 2 to obtain Windows XP SP3.

Network connection lost since sp3

Go to Add/Remove Programs in the control panel.

Next find Service Pack 3 and select "Uninstall"

This will roll your PC back to XP SP2, if you had SP2 installed prior to installing SP3.
See this link from Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936929

Scroll down till you come to "uninstall info for windows service pack 3 release candidate'.
You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
