I can only use the vacuum for about 5 minutes then it stops and I have to wait about 45 minutes for it to run again. I've followed the manual directions and checked for blockages.
Try sucking a tissue through the hose, if it makes it into the dirt canister, the hose is clear. Also check the throta of the vac about 3 inches inside to see if you have an obstruction. then post backTry sucking a tissue through the hose, if it makes it into the dirt canister, the hose is clear. Its overheating, so the TOC (thermal overload cutout device) is cutting the power to the motor to protect it.
Thats why it works when it has cooled down.
Check for blockages and make sure the filters are clean, if it still happens take to an approved engineer to check the TOC

Replace the switch! It shut down when battery get depleted. and then when you start it again the cycle is shorter because the batery regenerate but not as previous cycle.
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. From what you've described, it sounds as if the thermal cutout feature is shutting the machine down to prevent overheating. If you've already tried washing the filter and are still experiencing the issue, I'd encourage you stop using the cleaner and to contact us directly so we can help. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON, or email [email protected]. We'll look forward to hearing from you.
I have an infinity nv29 that stopped working while I was vacuuming. According to the manual I was supposed to unplug it for about 45 minutes and then try it again. I waited for over an hour and tried it again and it still won't turn on. Any suggestions?
You haven't stated the exact make and model but in general what you're experiencing is a safety feature: your machine is overheating and cuts out to prevent a fire.
Check that the bag isn't full and also check the moving parts for anything which is preventing proper operation. I can't give you specifics as you haven't even said whether it's a cylinder or an upright cleaner.
DO NOT continue to use your vacuum cleaner until you know what the problem is. In it's present state it's a fire risk.
the automatic cut out switch on the motor needs replacing when the motor gets hot this switch comes in and stops the motor from overheating when the motor cools down the cleaner will work again and cut out again when the motor gets hot if it is not replaced it will eventually burn the motor out after the switch has been replaced both the filter and cyclone need to be cleaned on a regular basis or the same will happen again
My Hoover S3639 on/off switch stopped working. I don't hear the 'click' any more. I removed the top of the vacuum but can't determine how to replace the switch.
It sucked up the tissue just fine and I don't see any obstruction.
