Whirlpool washer agitates but won't spin or drain

My whirlpool washer agitates but won't spin or drain. the timer was hitting spots where it would buzz for a long time before this started. i don't think the drain is plugged because the pump isn't trying. its as if the timer isn't sending a signal to the next phase (spin or drain). yet, there are a few times i've noticed that agitation stalls until I bump the agiator, as if freeing it. my timer was replaced within the last year which is also troubling.

SOURCE: Agitator not working on Maytag PAV2300

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the transmission in your unit is bad,it has internal gears and the ones involved in the agitation are broke or bad, to replace the transmision is a lengthy process, your best bet is to just scrap it and get a new washer. I don't know if you know this but maytag company is no longer in business. They were purchased by Whirlpool back in November of 2006. One of the reasons is all the poor quality of their appliances. I am a technician that has been doing this for 15 years. The best unit I have seen to date is the Whirlpool Duet. I hardly ever have to work on them. Sorry for the bad news. Hope this helps.

CHECK your stand pipe hasn't fell over (the one the drain hose goes to when emptying)If not,Either the pressure switch is broke or there is a hole or split in the pressure switch rubber hose. This switch stops the water when it reaches required level.

SOURCE: Loud noise

sounds like the absence of lubrication in the transmission. could be a bad bearing on the pulley side

SOURCE: SPOTS ON WHITE CLOTHES

if your washer has a slight rumble noise when on the spin then it is most likely that your bearings are on there way out, what it is is the bearings have grease in them and once the bearings start to go this grease starts to leak into the drum which is what the brown spots are it also leaks at the back around the bearing at the back of your outer drum and also leaks onto the floor this will need fixing by a domestic appliance engineer but it is sometimes cheaper to replace the washing machine

SOURCE: kenmore 90 series will not agitate or spin

Bubba, before you get into the spin tube, brake or clutch, this sounds more like you have something caught between the basket and tub or you have something jammed in the pump. First check that out and post back. Catriver.

My model GLET1041AS2 Frigidaire Laundry Center fills/agitates, but does not pump or spin. The timer would make a slight buzzing/timer sound when it hits the spin cycle, but nothing else.

The circuit board has a Cycle generator and sequencer that accepts commands when you manually do a setting. When the sequence enters the spin phase a block occurs and discontinues further action. It is not the timer, but the command center on the circuit board. Because the board has many functions, it is like a set of Christmas Tree lights in series, and when one bulb fails, so goes the set. You will no doubt need a new command board for that model.

Whirlpool LSQ9544KQO won't spin

if it fills with water and then nothing check the lid switch,if it's bad it won't do anything but fill, some will agitate but then no drain or spin, the easiest way to check it is open the lid a few inches and close it,do this a few times,if you don't hear a clicking sound the switch is bad,or open the lid and stick a screw driver into the hole on the right side where the strike from the lid goes into,if it doesn't click when you push it down and let it up it's bad, part number 3949237 and it's around 50 dollars.watch this video,it's a different lid switch but changes out the same way.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFsvLiuTniU
you can also stick a jumper wire into the two outside wires to check it,flip up the top console, you'll see the lid switch connector on the right side plugging into the top of the frame, unplug it,stick the jumper into the connector that unplugged from the frame and it will have three holes in it,the middle is ground so stick the jumper into the two outside holes, set the timer to drain and pull out the timer,if it starts to drain and spin then you know the lid switch is bad.hope this helps.

Whirlpool top load washer won't advance through cycles

A small motor that rotates the timer has gone bad. Common practice is to replace the timer. Usually a mechanical timer of this type is less expensive than a computerized timer.

What should i look for on my whirlpool washer if it hums but won't spin, agitate, or drain?

The motor may be shot if it is getting current and won't operate the washer.

Washer won't agitate. New transmission...new timer.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Top load, direct drive Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a reversing motor.

It turns one way for agitating and reverses for draining and spinning.

It sounds as if either the motor is shot or one of the connectors is bad.

As a place to start, see the Whirlpool Service manuasl (with wiring diagrams) for their top load, direct drive washers.
