Some lens manufacturers make adapter rings for different types of cameras. If the lens is not designed to fit your Nikon you'll have to get an adapter .
The M42 mount was used by several camera manufacturers, most notably Pentax. Nikon is not one of them. Vivitar made many lenses with a T-mount. This consists of a screw mount on the lens and a suitable adapter, depending on the camera body. This allows a lens to be used with different cameras simply by changing the adapter. If your lenses are T-mount, then yes, there are adapters available. One source is here. Be aware that you'll probably lose any metering capability when using any lens with this adapter. You'll have to use a separate light meter or else view the resulting picture on the display and adjust the exposure appropriately.
Hi,
The focal distance on Pentax camera's is different then the focal distance on Nikon's so because of that Pentax lens' can't be adapted to work on a Nikon camera. I'd suggest finding a similar lens with a Nikon mount as cross brand mounting is quite difficult.
The manual will just have assembly instructions, it will NOT help you find objects in the sky. Locate a local Astronomy club and the members will help you.
There are modules available to convert the camera into a Nikon lens. Right below your fill flash on the left hand side of the unit, there is a square button to release your current module and attach the new Nikon module.
