All covers are closed but the Dell 3000cn printer gives me a "paper cover is open, close PaperCover 077-303" message. I cannot even run a test page. The printer is hooked to a PC running MS Windows XP-Pro, which had previously run the same make/model printer successfully. I have unplugged, unhooked, turned off and on numerous times and rebooted to no effect. We can't find a sensor to trip to "fool" the printer into believing that the closed door is closed, and my previous 3000cn printed with the paper door open! Is this likely a software glitch or unseen damage in transit? Please help!
303 is refering to duplex unit, is one installed on your model?
Sometimes you need to push rather hard on rear cover for it to fully latch on this madel
Check latch switch for bent broke
you should be able to ring dell and have machine replace doa (dead on arrival), Have a look at feed roller on old machine, probally has paper lint on it, clean with metho and soft rag, or flog the feed roller off the new one and put on old.
Sounds like something is not installed fully on new one or bashed in transit

Does that message appears in the printer on the PC?
if its in the pc, try reinstalling the printer...
firts uninstall it from control panel>printer and faxes, and delete it by clicking it and pressing delete.. after you see the icon does not appear anymore, reboot..
then reinstall everything back again, and when you reinstall everything, make sure everything is well connected, and the printer on....

The message was on the printer itself, not the PC, and I do not have a duplex unit. However, slamming the pictured door, and weighting it down with a rock, gets me to the next problem: paper will not feed. Every sheet I've tried is a misfeed, regardless of weight or type. It's not an issue of a little piece being lost somewhere within the machine's paper path because no sheet has gotten beyond the paper input floor. I'm beginning to think I've gotten a lemon.
The problem I had with my previous Dell 3000cn was that it had stopped feeding index stock, which I need for work. If there's a simple answer to that problem, I'll go back to my old machine and chuck this one!
