My computer crashed. I have a backup of all my Palm files but am having trouble recovering them. Does anyone have instructions on how to restore backup files on a Palm Tungsten E2?

Hello.

Palm backups are located in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Palm\username>\ED\Backup\

When you HotSync a PDA that has undergone a hard reset, HotSync will compare the two devices. When it sees that the PDA is empty, it will attempt to reload any backup that exists on the PC. Once this data is reloaded, the PDA will ask to do a soft reset. This is simply a restart of the device and doesn't affect any of the newly installed data. This returns the PDA to working order, with all the data and programs functioning as they were before.

Hope this resolves your problem.

Hello, it seems my palm Tungsten E2 is not compatible with Windows 7 (hotsync). Anything I can do or is there another PDA that will work? Thanks, I do need the PDA.

you need to uninstall the version of palm desktop that you alredy have and install the 4.14 palm desktop, with the hotsync manager that 4.14 includes you should have no more problems

HotSync problem:connection could not be

After you change the battery you need to do a hard reset. This will erase all the info in your pda so you want to make sure you have it all backed up on the palm desktop To do a hard reset follow these steps:

1. Hold down the power button.
2 While holding down the power button, use the tip of the stylus and inset it into the hole in the back of your pda and gently press and release the reset button in the back of your pda.
3. When you see the message that warns you about erasing all of the info on your hand held select continue.
4. When prompted follow the online directions to align the screen. After that you will want to do another hot sync. Best wishes.

Help

I had the same issue.  I finally upgraded to the current version of Outlook.  That seemed to solve the issue for me.  Syncing a palm is not easy.  I will never buy a Palm again.

Palm tungsten

you may want to run through a few troubleshooting tricks
first try pulling out any extra USB type items that you remove and replace frequently (like a flash drive) and restart your computer after its done booting up you can try hotsyncing again. Make sure what you wanted to put on your PDA is still in the Hotsync manager box.
A PDA not wanting to hotsync is a very general statement. It is an indicator for many different problems.
-You may need a new hotsync cable
-try a different usb port on your computer
-you could open the PDA up and check if all the contacts are clean and connected (Warranty void alert)
-Try re-installing the PAlm desktop software
-If nothing else works put whatever application you're trying to hotsync onto a SD card and copy it from the card and onto the PDA

Tungsten Es are excellent PDAs and it doesn't have too many problems besides being too "basic". A problem like not hot syncing probably isn't an indicator of something really bad unless you've dropped it too many times.
If all else fails you may need to pick up a different PDA

Outlook calendar will not synch to handheld

Here are two resource pages which hopefully will help. The first is Palm support page with an update to download for users of Outlook 2003. The second is a discussion thread of Treo users troubleshooting the same problem. Even if the PDA is different, the issue (and error code) is practically the same, Rather than cut and paste what I think is relevant, read the thread and see if one of the solutions listed helps you.

http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/pim_update.html

http://discussion.treocentral.com/archive/index.php/t-96051.html

Let us know how you make out.

PS - What PDA, operating systems (PC and PDA) and version of Outlook are you using?

Unable to hotsync with my computer

Also, if you have a new Tungsten E2 and there is no important data, I would hard reset it and then when you sync it, select the old profile of the previous Palm to see if that works.

The new Palm you have, is it a Tungsten E2 as well?

The profiles don't always carry over between different models.

Lost calendar on hotsync

The information is unfortunately lost.

Unless you synced the palm on another computer, the palm only can back up the information when synced.

So if you sync it and the computer overwrites the handheld, the information never made it to the computer and thus cannot be restored.

The only thing you could check would be the backup folder in the palm directory under your profile name. Palm puts all of the .prc/.pdb files in there when you sync.

Sync Doubling Calendar & Contacts in Outlook 2002

your t5 is UNSTABLE possibly due syncing to an old username from an old PDA. To correct this: -delete manually the doubles (PDS has a tool but none for outlook) -perform hard reset on your t5 -hotsync - creating a new user name (do not use the old one) -you will be asked to use the same profile name for the outlook Then you should be good to go.
