If the cap is domed, the top is bursting upward, read the value on the side, might be something like 1000uF, 50V ,buy a part online, try to get one rated at 105 C, then you have to remove the board and solder the new part in. or write down the part number of the board, and model number, to buy the entire board online

it is two 1000uf 10 volt capacitors on the power board. the tops of the
capacitors will look like they are bulging. total cost of parts around
five dollars. if you can use a soldering iron and have a half hour to
spare this will fix it .there are alot of polaroid customers that have had
this problem and fixed it themselves. just click on the follwing to see
the video on this fix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unuS3CvmWtw

If you feel you have isolated the problem board, you might check here for a replacement:

Try viewing the screen from a flat angle with some light source at the opposite angle while turned on.
If you can see image 'ghosts,' then either the backlight fluorescent or the high voltage inverter for it has failed.
This may not be cheap to repair but I wouldn't consider it a death notice.
If you or a tech finds which it is, you might try here for the board:
Jimmy's parts
These will be 'pulls' from mfr. overstock or disassembled sets. They do offer a warranty.
If the backlight has failed, I'm pretty sure a tech will know where to get them.

this sounds like a mainboard issue , a replacement mainboard will solve this problem
