If the cap is domed, the top is bursting upward, read the value on the side, might be something like 1000uF, 50V ,buy a part online, try to get one rated at 105 C, then you have to remove the board and solder the new part in. or write down the part number of the board, and model number, to buy the entire board online

SOURCE: screeching sound and display of color bars with no picture

it is two 1000uf 10 volt capacitors on the power board. the tops of the
capacitors will look like they are bulging. total cost of parts around
five dollars. if you can use a soldering iron and have a half hour to
spare this will fix it .there are alot of polaroid customers that have had
this problem and fixed it themselves. just click on the follwing to see
the video on this fix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unuS3CvmWtw

SOURCE: olevia lcd tv has sound but no picture... Used

Try viewing the screen from a flat angle with some light source at the opposite angle while turned on. If you can see image 'ghosts,' then either the backlight fluorescent or the high voltage inverter for it has failed. This may not be cheap to repair but I wouldn't consider it a death notice.
If you or a tech finds which it is, you might try here for the board:
Jimmy's parts
These will be 'pulls' from mfr. overstock or disassembled sets. They do offer a warranty.
If the backlight has failed, I'm pretty sure a tech will know where to get them.

Model ELDFC551J 55" element tv , turns on and picture can be seen very dim when light is shined on the screen. Tv has sound. Set was working great the day before. How can I trouble shoot.

LCD TV backlight lamp is usually the culprit... On my TV, however, it's the capacitors that gave out. You can tell the capacitors are bad when the top part of it is not flat and it's bulging.

The screen is blue but nothing shows for tv or dvr

Hi Mike,
If your TV is more than 4 years old cost of repairs will probably be more than a new or refurbished replacement.
Here's something to try:
If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

My pwoer supply blew up as well part number HGP 180-p240JIFE

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Relative to Olevia TV Power Supply Problems Solution provided by: kb8tez Matt, the problem he had was Electrolytic Capacitor CS21. Upon careful examination of the Power Supply Circuit Board I find that CS21 is in parallel with CS22. Simply replacing BOTH Capacitors makes for a more permanent fix. Radio Shack P/N 272-1032 1000UF 35V Capacitors @ $1.59 each plus tax makes a very inexpensive repair. Apparently the same power supply circuit board is common to many different Olevia Models.

Olevia LT23 23in. LCD/TV

I had the same prob, but found out that the problem with the Olevia lcd tv's on most models not powering up is because of failure of capacitors on the power supply board that I do believe is due to excessive heat and lack of ventilation.

I took the tv apart and got access to the main board and just by looking at the capacitors I could tell which one were the bad ones..

I will show some pics that I borrowed during my repair, hope it helps as reference as it did to me.

I replaced the bad caps with new ones that I bought at a computer parts store.

Now I got my lcd tv back ON but this time I added a internal cooling fan for better air flow that will reduce this malfunction from happening again.

Hope this helps.
