My A720IS would not retain date/time from new (Nov 2007). Worried about sending back for warranty, I thought I would check it out myself, I opened battery cover, removed AA batteries, removed lithium date/time battery which exposed 2 finger type electrical contacts which I gently pulled out very slightly with a paper clip shaped like small hook, this gave enough tension to contact lithium battery and has worked ok since. Maybe this will work for you too.
I found this and it seems to work
