How do I format a dvd disc

You don't have to. DVD's and CD's are already formatted from factory. But if you are having problems to record on (burn) them probably your computer is not capable for DVD burn, just CD's. But if it is equipped for burning then try this:
See alsoFormat a CD or DVD

Before you can copy files to a CD or DVD, the disc must first be prepared using a process called formatting. There are several ways to format a CD or DVD disc. Your choice of format determines which computers and other devices will be able to read the disc.

  1. Insert a disc into your computer's CD or DVD drive.

  2. In the dialog box that appears, click Burn files to disc.

  3. In the Burn a disc dialog box, type a name for your new disc.

  4. Click Show formatting options, and then click one of the following formatting options:

    • Live File System

    • Mastered

  5. Click Next to prepare the disc.

Now you can copy files to your disc using whichever method you selected.

How to copy to cd from my desktop?

It depends on the OS you are using.
If you are using windows XP, upon inserting the cd, click the cd icon on 'My Computer'. When that opens up, you would be open to a 'CD burining' window. Copy what ever you want to copy from the desktop onto that window, then by the left, you would see an option 'Burn these files to CD'. Click it and the CD burning window would be open, insert the cd title, then go on with the burning. When you are done, you would have you data on the cd.

If your OS is windows Vista or windows 7, insert the CD, a dialog box would open up, you would be asked if you want to format the CD, select the option 'live formatting'.
When you are done with formatting, your CD would be like any other flash drive or external disk. You can then copy onto it from the desktop.
Hope that was helpful?
Success.

Just bought a 306 estate but the cd player won't play copied Cds, is this usual or is there something I can do.

if by copied cds, you mean cds that u burnt personally maybe by using your computer or so, it is possible that the files on the cd are not encoded in the right format that is accessible by the player for example, you could have burnt all your files onto the cd using mp3 format while the player recognises only the .cda format. hope this helped you? please rate

I turned my computer on and tried copying some music onto a disc but it would'nt let me. it wasn't on my devices with removeable in my computer. i followed online help but nothing seems to work any...

It will not possible to COPY songs from a commercially (original disc) available easily as you copy a regular file. In such cases you need to RIP the music files from the disc. There are soft-wares available that can rip files off the disc. Click on the link below:

http://www.freerip.com

Download and install Freerip. You can save t as mp3 format and copy to a cd to play in devices that play mp3 format or copy in wav format and then create a CD using a CD authoring software to create a regular disk. However, please note that copyright protected material should only be copied, if you own the original CD and should be done done only for archiving.

I can not get cd that I have in my computer to

You cannot copy a CD song to a MP3 player, it does not recognize the CD file format only MP3 file format.
You can convert your CDs into MP3 files can copy them to your MP3 player. There are freeware programs on the Internet that convert CD songs to MP3 format, the CD song is rip/converted to MP3 file.
Microsoft Media Player can also rip CD songs into MP3 files as well as playing MP3 files/songs.

Do you know if the Sony CDP-C215 can play MP3 format?

No ... This is a 1st generation multi-disk player and, although it's a great, reliable, unit, it does not recognize MP3 or WMA files. You can play BURNed (automatically copied as CDI files) or RIPped copies (converted to WAV files only). The files are much larger ... but more detailed and accurate than compressed formats.

My girlfriend just gave me a copy of rosetta stone on cd but when i try to load it,it brings up a whole bunch of iso files and no way to install the software is there a program i need to install it...

An iso file is the format used for a cd/dvd. Example: If you create a digital copy of a cd/dvd, it will be in iso format if done correctly.

How it sounds to me, is that your girlfriend copied the cd wrong. Sounds like she created a iso image and just put it on the cd as a file, instead of making a true copy of the cd.

To work with iso images you need to install a program like "Alcohol 120" to create a "virtual drive". Load the ISO file into it and it pretends you are using a real cd-rom. Pretty self explanatory once you have the program installed, tad hard to explain.

UNPLAYABLE MP3

Windows media or Itunes can rip a CD for you and convert them into MP3 files. Then you can put in a blank CD in the computer and copy the MP3 files into the CD and burn them that way.

It requires to put the CD into a data format to burn them rather than a music CD format.
