Try removing all batteries, then reinstalling in the outdoor unit and waiting for it to start sending data before reinstalling batteries in the indoor unit. If you don't see data displayed on the indoor unit, the outdoor unit may have failed.
Ivar comes from ancient Norse/Scandinavian and means "The Archer" or "Bow Warrior." Not sure why this question was in computer support, but love the meaning of the name.
Verify that you in fact replaced the batteries with GOOD batteries. If you can separate the thermostat from the sub-base, hold it in your hand and replace the batteries again. If the display does not come up at that point, it is time to change the thermostat.
My thermostat used to go blank when heating. It was caused by the overheat protector inside the heater. That switch cuts the power to the heater and the thermostat. The heater could also be burned out. If it's a 24Volt system, the power supply could be bad.
Unless the new battery is dead that would explain it, but assuming the battery is good it indicates a failure in the electronic module and should be considered done.
If the thermostat is a digital /programmable you may want to recheck program to see if it has changed or been changed. If thermostat is not digital then it is prbably warn out and need replaced.
