SOURCE: Sharp lc-42le540u dark picture around the edges especially the bottom half my power supply is okay how do I check my backlights

No doubt you have some strips of lamps in the panel that have failed, soon the entire picture will go black. You will need to take the front panel off to get at the lamps its not an easy job and chances are if you try doing it you will damage the panel putting it back together, Ive done hundreds of them and every once in awhile I get in to big a hurry and ruin one, plan on spending about $150 if you take it in to have them replaced as its labor intensive

Testimonial: "Thank you for your reply I figured it to be a panel problem and I don't mess with the panel for fear of making things worse but I'm at the point where I think I need to strait trying thank you"

The TV sensor no longer picks up the remote signal.

Check the remote control for its infra-red emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check by pressing all the buttons on it; and see whether all of it generates infrared signal while pressing. If it is found OK, check and replace the infrared sensor inside the TV. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It has details about how to check a remote control; by one among the post. Surf the site with patience. Sharp tv has no power

Sounds like your set has been zapped by a spike on the line. Now you know why UPS units and surge diverters were invented.
A new TV sounds probable as many components could be damaged. If you are lucky it could be just a fuse but I have my doubts.
Moral, invest in a surge diverter, it would have saved you a new TV

My sharp aquos lc-60le660u its only displaying the sharp logo.wont.turn.of or anything else.like if it is frozen

Try a hard reset to this set; and check. If it do not help you, contact the authorized service center. The main board will be faulty. There are two types of reset to TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset; and the other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight; will be better. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Is it normal to take about 18 seconds to start

If you notice the time taken to start is more than what it was before, slowly the power supply board is developing problems, due to leaky or dry capacitors or dry solder.

Why are the pictures smaller on tv screen for standard channels ?

Please check which format you have selected in the menu, settings of the TV in the remote control. If correct format is not selected, you may have this problem. Also please ensure that the transmission or recording you are viewing is not made in that format, before changing the setting of the TV.
