Looking for a work around or do I need to return canon camcorder
Nothing wrong with the Canon, but you cannot expect one piece of equipment to play tapes recorded a dozen years ago on equipment of a different make.
Your best bet will be to find someone to transfer the tapes to DVD for you.
Testimonial: "What do you mean. If I buy a 20 year old VCR I can play them in another VCR 20 years later. These are cassettes. Not digital Also. Who and where would I look to find someone to do this transfer. Thanks"
SOURCE: Will not playback tapes
a sony cleaning cassette may clear the gunk from your friend ' s possibly ? bad tapes ( do not rewind it - or the gunk will be redeposited ) ; if still no video , get an estimate to have your heads and guides cleaned . . . professionally ;
SOURCE: GR-D72 Mini DV Digital Camcorder makes clicking sound when tape running
the clicking is from the capstain turning the tape -- and perhaps the metal cage holding the tape.. if it is bent then the movement of the capstain may be pushing it in an eccentric fashion.
send it in for repair.
SOURCE: Eject tape message
We get the eject message and then it will not eject tape. Any suggestions
SOURCE: Problems with playback of HI8 tapes...
What's happening is that the tape in the cassette is being chewed on one side by the camera's tape transporting mechanism during playback, hence the distorted image and sound. The mechanism might be damaged (misalignment) or just dirty. Try not to play other tapes on this unit because they will become permanently damaged. The best way is to find another camcorder (if cleaning does not help). Note that some old cassettes of long recording time will exhibit this behavior more often because of thinner tape used.

our MV800 was doing the the same so i
"accidentally" dropped it (i got a bit frustrated and it was out of
warranty) and now it works fine. please note it dropped about half a
meter on carpeted floor while it was off.
Hope this helps
