What is the speaker impedance requirements for an Alpine 7164 am/fm cassette player? I also have an Alpine 3508 power amplifier - same question about the speaker impedance on that one, also.

Unless other specified in paperwork, all Alpine receivers are 4ohm capable only.
Now yes there are exceptions, but not many.
Now for amp almost all alpine amps can be run in several different resistances.
Basically for sure 4ohm, now depending on model some have abilities to go as low as 1ohm stable. But for most 2 ch alpine non special amps are all 4ohm and most 2ohm capable.
Now better models can do things such as run 2,3,4 ch. And some can even get to .5 ohm loads stable.

SOURCE: Amplifier displays "CUR"

Hello anwbrown,

The "CUR" display means that the amp is drawing excessive current and the protection circuit is activating. Too low impedance or shorted speakers will cause the amp to draw excessive current.

The Alpine V12 is a Class D mono amp with only one set of speaker outputs. All versions, M301, M501, and M1001 are only stable to 2ohms. Assuming that all 6 of your connected subwoofers and speakers are 4ohm and they're all connected in parallel, the amp sees a .67 ohm load, far below it's rated impedance.

When brand new, the amp could probably operate at low to moderate volume levels without drawing excessive current. But as electronic components age, their tolerances change and they become less able to withstand excessive current or mismatched impedances.

I'd get a 4-channel amp and drive the 4" speakers off the front channels and the 6X9's off the rear channels. And just power the subs off the V12 making sure that they are connected to show a minimum load of 2ohms.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Alpine 3530 Bridgeable 4 channel power amplifier

Use the left and right to connect the positive and negative to the respective speakers in the right and left. Please make sure of the polarity and so be cautious. next you can connect the sub woofer from the left and right channel as the amp is bridgeable. Use the lead to connect from the R- positve to L negative. test and check the phasing of the speakers, must get good low bass or else you can reverse the sub woofer and check again. If you ae having frint speakers connect accordingly the the other channel. Helpful Good day

The radio receives power from the RADIO fuse in the junction block-right I/P. Ground is provided via G201 and G202. The radio is enabled/disabled by class 2 messages from the body control module (BCM). The radio routes audio signals from the digital radio receiver or the vehicle communication interface module (VCIM) to the speakers and/or amplifier when directed by class 2 messages.
The Entertainment System on this vehicle is configured with an AM/FM stereo radio with the radio data system (RDS) and either a cassette player or a CD player or both. CD and cassette. The uplevel system provides the customer with extended range speakers and an audio amplifier. Satellite digital radio (U2K) is available with uplevel systems.
The following list shows the radios available for this vehicle:
• Radio (ULO) - AM/FM Stereo, Cassette with RDS
• Radio (UNO) - AM/FM Stereo, CD and RDS
• Radio (UPO) - AM/FM Stereo, Cassette with CD and RDS .The complexity of the radio systems on these vehicle is mind blowing .

When the radio is powered up, the radio supplies low level audio signals to the speakers. If the vehicle is equipped with an audio amplifier, the amplifier will boost the signal sent to the speakers.

What ohm and watt speakers can I use with a craig CM402 cd am fm player? It came without them

Speaker requirements are likely to be 8 ohm, most modern hi-fi speakers are. A few low-fi systems have used special high impedance speakers and the old hi-fi standard for valve amplifiers was 15 ohm and 3 ohm or lower has been used in televisions a lot.

4 ohm speakers are commonly used where a higher power output is desired at the cost of some quality of sound reproduction but depending on how the sound is listened to can soon overload some amplifiers primarily designed for 8 ohm as it will try and deliver more power into the lower impedance speakers and perhaps exceed the rating.

8 ohms is a safer choice. The lower the wattage rating of the speakers the more efficiently they tend to be able to reproduce sound at low volume levels so for background music in a small domestic environment the average power requirement will be in the order of half a watt so even with a high powered amplifier the volume would rarely be turned up above 1 - 2 on the typical scale of 10 and ten watt speakers would be more than adequate. It is unfortunate that it is almost impossible to obtain quality speakers rated at such an unfashionably low power rating.

With the stiffer cones of a higher power rated speakers the volume has to be turned higher before the speakers become efficient and listening at low levels can be difficult. In a domestic environment a 50 watt rating is perhaps the best compromise as if there are neighbours to consider a ten watt average power output will be sufficient even if the amplifier is capable of higher powers. Just don't turn the volume up more than necessary.

The greater the power rating the more power will be required for efficient reproduction. For electrical and mechanical safety of the speakers the rating should exceed the maximum output of the amplifier but listening at low levels with quality of sound can become virtually impossible.

It is all a matter of taste and environment.

I just bought a standard studio by fisher fm-600, do i need an amplifier to hook it up?

According to the picture of one on eBay it appears to be an old school stand-alone tuner so, yes, you need an integrated amp to drive speakers.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&item=110668824047&nma=true&rt=nc&si=DnF0oreD08pmu6sCzXTYLPJXs5Y%253D

The lack of speaker posts on the back and a volume control on the front are big clues that it has no amps.

How much is this mrv t320 amp and is it good for a 12 p3 rockfordfosgate?

If the Alpine is run bridged at a 4 ohm impedance then yes this would be fine. The amp is 400 Watts x 1 at 4 ohms. The P3 ha a 500 Watt rms rating. Just verify the impedance of your speaker. If you have a DVC 4 ohm speaker if wired in parallel you would present a 2 ohm impedance to the amp, that is bad. What is the impedance of your speaker?

I have an alpine mrd-m1001 getting curr message ho do you reset the amp

Hello deeprajm,

Shorted or low impedance outputs can cause the "CUR" display. Power down everything and remove the speaker wires. If it will then power up without the display, the problem is probably a short in the speaker wire or voice coil, or the impedance load is too low. If there are multiple subs, reconnect them one at a time to isolate the bad one and then correct the problem. If the amp works properly with either of the subs but not both, rewire the subs for a higher final impedance.

If the amp still displays "CUR" with the speakers disconnected, there's most likely an internal fault that requires component level repair.

Hope this helps.
