The magnetron carries the part number for itself. You can sight it by removing the cover. Parts are available from the maker or repairs agents. However, the cost of a new magnetron may exceed the cost to replace the Microwave Oven.
Before removing the cover of the oven in attempt to carry out any maintenance such as replacing the Oven cavity lamp, make sure the oven is disconnected from the power point ! The voltages in a microwave oven ARE LETHAL !

SOURCE: Paint damaged in side microwave oven

1) How is the cavity damaged? Is it just peeling paint, or is it rust? If it's rust then the microwave could be dangerous.

2) The antenna cap usually has a small hole in the centre, but if there are any other holes in it the magnetron itself could be damaged, and holes caused by the magnetrin arcing.

SOURCE: WHIRLPOOL MICROWAVE GIVING F-7 CODE

It appears to be from detecting an arc due to insulation fault such as a punctured sleeve or too close to a conductor with dust and humidity.

This may be difficult or easy depending on your hands on skills. With power unplugged at all times, the big cap inside will self-discharge. Then follow this Youtube link for easy stripdown , but the user could not fix it. However E&M in text did fix his and others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXRykNj2Lh0

Microwave noise

<- With a full model number from the tag on or in the oven, I may have been able to give you specific help.

Without that essential information, I can only give more general advice.

I would ask for additional information, but FixYa no longer notifies us experts when such inquiries have been answered.

If it's a GE with a model number something like JVM1861BW001, etc., I repair those boards for such problems.

GE Spacemaker Microwave 5 years old Model JVM1440WH01 The Clock, Fan, Interior and Exterior Surface lights work, but it does not heat the food. Over the stove model,

the magnetron may be faulty on this unit... the magnetron is what heats unit... there is also a thermal limit on this unit mounted behind the control panel and will require removing in order to check... unplug unit and remove two wires attached to limit about the size of a quarter and round in shape..check contuinity and should be closed... if it is then most likely the magnetron has failed... is a replaceable part sorta expensive and requires taking apart the cabinet and removing a few componets to get to the magnetron bolts/screws ...
www.sears.com then hit the parts direct link up at top of the screen enter your model number and will give you a parts diagram check availabilty and price on your part....
sometimes cost verses replacement is worth buying another one.... but can be fixed... most magnetrons have 5 year warranty goes by serial number of unit or installation of unit if your the original owner.... good luck to you

Hello, I have a model R303CW microwave. Table turns, lights work, fan works, control panel works. NO HEAT. I see only one fuse, so that must not be the problem. Any suggestions?

The fuse you are referring to is usually the line fuse. If it were blown, the microwave oven would be completely dead. Since you HAVE power and the turn table, fan and lights all work, the line is not the problem.

If everything works, but the microwave oven does not heat, this is most commonly caused by a failed magnetron or internal thrmostat. The magnetron is essentially, the heart of the oven that produces the RF energy that is used to heat your food. In order to replace a defective magnetron, you will need to consider the following:

1. You will need to uninstall the oven from over the range in order to replace the part (you will need to do this anyway, if you decide to buy a replacement oven).

2. Ensure the oven is UNPLUGGED before servicing anything inside the cabinet and remove the exterior case in order to access the magnetron.
There are several websites that you can use that illustrate how the oven is assembled:
searspartsdirect.com pcappliancerepair.com appliancepartspros.com
NOTE: If you've never repaired an appliance on your own before, a microwave oven is usually not a recommended appliance to start with. Some models can be rather involved in taking apart.
If the model number you posted this question under is correct, the magnetron replacement part number is 10794402. NOTE: This model also has an internal thermal fuse mounted on the magnetron that, if tripped, could give you the same symptoms. The thermal fuse acts as a fuse if the oven cavity or magnetron overheats. The part number is 59001951. You will need to remove the thermal fuse from the oven and take a resistance check across the component terminals to determine if it is good or not. A low resistance reading indicates a good thermostat. An infinite reading, indicates a blown thermostat and needs to be replaced.

I would recommend you check the thermal fuse, first as the replacement cost is much less than the magnetron.

Review the parts illustrations at the recommended websites to see if this is something that you may be able easily take apart and reassemble.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

CAUTION: DO NOT operate a microwave oven with the exterior cover off. The voltage inside the High Voltage network where the magnetron is installed can exceed 3,000 volts!

H98 error message. Micowave not heating, stops after 37 seconds

HI. in most cases, this will lead to a failed Heating device(magnetron tube). It would be wise to check the Magnetron cutoff fuse to be sure of its integrity. if the fuse is blown, simply replace it. if the fuse continues to show continuity, replace the magnetron.

(((The fuse is located inside the unit along side the magnetron)))

Give out a buzzing noise with a burning burning smell. Is it worth fixing or should we get a compatible replacement since this model is no longer available. Thanks

This is a common symptom of a failed magnetron, or defective wave guide assembly. The price of a new magnetron is about $120. The waveguide (if defective) cannot be purchased without buying a new unit. Your choice. Do you think its worth repairing? You can purchase a new magnetron, but if the waveguide is damaged, the unit will still exhibit the same symptoms you are experiencing. Its not often that I give advice NOT to fix something, but in your case, it may not be the best choice.
