We recently purchased a GE gas dryer and haven't had any issues until last night. We noticed when turning the dryer on that you could smell gas in the laundry room. I cannot find a leak and the smell dissipated after turning the dryer off. I tried again later on and same thing. I tried again this morning and there wasn't a smell. Any thoughts on what might have caused this? We are obviously concerned about the possibility of gas being emitted into our home.

I don't know. hook up should have been by a qualified installer and properly inspected and tested.
be very careful. your unit may be under warranty. please inquire about a free service call before using it again.
dryers blow air to the outside so it vents to the outdoors whenever it is running. there may be a small leak and the odour cold be vented which would account for no odour.
be safe and update your home's insurance.

SOURCE: Whole room stunk . Refer had Ice on the back panel on the Freezer

the fact that ice was built up on back of freeezer tells me that the refrigerant system is probably ok. most likely from your description you have a defrost system problem. whne ice builds up very heavily it starts to act like insulation (think igloo) so it will allow frozen foods to thaw and fresh foods to spoil. here is how to check. in refrig compartment I need you to remove the control panel/light lens in rear, these are held in place by the control knobs and then you pull out on the cover to release. once this is removed I need you to look for the defrost timer there will be a hole to the right of the temp controls it has a grey or black looking knob in it that you can turn with a flat tip scre driver. turn this knob until the unit clicks off. now you will have to wait a few minutes but listen in the freezer compartment for a sound that sounds like water falling into a hot frying pan, you may also notice a glowing red light at teh bottom of the cover in the back of the freezer.
if the heaters don't come on then the timer is ok. teh next step is remove the rear freezer cover and defrost the ice out of the coils. you can use a hair dryer, or a wet dry vac set to the blow position. once the ice is gone inspect the heaters for burnt or broken condition. (ge uses glass rod heaters and heater breakage is very common) I suspect the heaters are the problem anyway.
be aware that you are going to get lots of water the drain pan will not contain all of the defrost form this bad a freeze up. good luck peyton

SOURCE: Dryer smells like gas

If you smell gas then there is a leak. The gas company came out and checked for a leak? Get them back in the morning before you open the room to check again. Eric

SOURCE: freezer started emitting a chemical smell and food is thawing.

if its a sweet sickly smell then its possibly just a relay thats burnt out, should be cheap enough to replace, its the call out thats the killer.

GE Profile Spectra XL 44 gas oven

If you can smell the gas when you turn on the oven, it may be on a separate igniter that has gone bad. I would check this first. If you are not getting gas to the oven, there is possibly an issue with the supply line.
