Any suggestions about how to remove a stubborn planetary from Hobart N 50?

It is a commercial machine, so I would advise against any major repairs. The manual does give all the information. The unit has oil seals in the head and these would have to be replaced.

After the pin is removed, place a flat-blade screw driver at opposite sides of the planetary in the small gap between it and the housing. Gently pry off the planetary.

If your N-50 is making a grinding noise there is a strong (almost certain) possibility that the cause is more than just needing more grease.

The sources of the noise are from the transmission case (front portion of the motor housing) and/or the planetary (where the blade attaches).

A search online should turn up the N-50 Service Manual.



With luck, it may be that the two adjustments specified in the Service Manual will do the trick

Three things come to mind regarding the noise:

1) If simply greasing the planetary does not do the trick, then

2) There are two adjustments to the transmission detailed in the Service Manual. And if that is not the cure

3) The transmission housing will need to be removed to find the source of the grinding. This is where the grease is truly encountered.

Is the oil leaking down the beater shaft?Remove the silver drip cup,3 screw's one in the midlle,one on the right and one on the left.Once you drop the drip cup if it's filled with oil then you may need the seal's in the transmission replaced.

you need to remove all the back screws then if it doesnt come tap it with arubber mallet it may be seized on

hi,its no big deal--the mixer is filled with grease and its coming from the planetary.if it is bothersome remove the drip cup (silver ring) then you will see a roll pin that holds the planetary onto the main shaft.get a small punch and knock out the pin.if the planetary doesnt drop down use 2 flat head scewdrivers and pry it down.clean out the old grease and put in new grease.you can buy it from hobart or get a white lithium grease from an auto parts store.
