In the freezer compartment there is a panel on the ceiling of the freezer, remove this with a small spatula, it snaps off, there is a dial that controls the airflow on the panel, inside this panel is the defrost control board, it does not use the old time defrost timer, it uses this part, its about $250

SOURCE: Freezer/refrigerator compressor running constantly

th ebi-metal is a thermostat which shuts the defrost heater on/off, but doesnt actually put the unit into defrost. if it were bad the defrost heater would never go on resulting in massive build up of ice on back wall of freezer, and noticable refrigeration sect. cooling.. dont know how you know the compressor never shuts down, but if that the case perhaps you have a sealed system/ freon issue. try removing the back panel of freezer section and check the evaporator coil. you shuld have an even frost pattern over the entire evap coil. if theres just frost over the top 1or 2 coils, and the rest of coil is shiny aluminum , thats an indication of a sealed system issue.( 5 year part warr by manufacture) def not a do it yourself issue...but that would,, depending on extent of restriction/loss of freon,, cause freezer to freeze and defrost eratically, and the compressor would be running constantly trying to achieve a good stable temp

SOURCE: Where is the defrost timer located on GE

This model does not have a defrost timer. It has a motherboard. You must jump out the plug to the main board to test the defrost circuit. In order to do this take the cover off of the main board, find the three wire connector on the base of the main board, connecter is normally blue in color. On the board itself it will identify termials as line, defrost, and compressor. To test you must create a jumper wire.Install the jumper in the plug terminals identified as line and defrost. This will turn the defrost heater on. If the heater does not come on, look for a defective heater or a defrost thermostat(mounted on the top of the evaporator). If the heater does come on replace the thermister(located on top of evap, white in color and has two white wires part#WR55x10025)

If you get the complete model number which is located inside the refrigerator on a tag either on the upper left or right wall or the roof inside and then go to partselect.com you will get an illustrated blow out and you'll be able to see exactly where every part is

I think defrost timer frig doesnt cool enough and freezer frost up

I think you are having a defrost problem that could be related to a defective defrost timer, adaptive defrost control board, defrost heater or defrost thermostat. Can you post the model number of your refrigerator found around the fresh food section door frame? This is to insure I can point you to the correct parts. All I know is that you have a Whirlpool Refrigerator and these models all have different different parts for the defrost. Thanks Sea Breeze

Whirlpool Gold freezes up to frige side

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Freezer frosts up and then the refer doesn't get cold air. I have completely defrosted it twice. Model # ED25DSXDN03

You have either a bad defrost heater, defrost thermostat or defrost timer.
The defrost timer is located in the control panel box in the fresh food section. The heater and thermostat are in the freezer section behind the rear panel.
On this brand it is usually the defrost timer.

Whirlpool Model # GB2SHTXTS00 refrigerator not cooling. it has bottom freezer...coils in the freezer are icing up... I checked the heater, and stat ohmed ok.i ran the service test everything appeared...

Sounds like the defrost timer is not tracking the time properly. The unit needs to defrost once every 6-8 hrs. in order to work. Make sure the inside (evaporator) fan is running ok. If it rund for a few days and then warms up in the refrigerator section (coil iced), then the defrost timer is the culprit.

Freezer and refrigerator will not get cold - fan runs but not ver

You will need to check for frost accumulation in the freezer section. The rear panel inside the freezer will need to be removed. If there is frost either the defrost bi metal or the heater are open. If both are ok the defrost control needs to be replaced depending on the model some defrost controls are electronic some are mechanical.
