Thomas the Train Ride on Train only goes backwards

I got my train used and we went out and purchased a new battery. It will move backwards without any difficulty, but does not move forward nor does it make any "train" sounds. I think this is an older model train where there is a "gear" shift and it moves when you step on the right pedal. There are various buttons to push on the steering wheel. Is something jammed or something? Anyone have a manual to share?

Thanks!!

Check the battery. It sounds like you have it in, backwards.

Hi, someone gave us a Thomas Train ride on toy V6. We replaced the battery, charger and the motor. The sound works, the lights work but the train doesn't move.

The only thing left is the motor or the controller. So you isolate the motor and connect it to power. If it turns are full speed, you know it is the controller, if nothing happens it is the controller.

Thomas the Train Ride on Toy by Peg Perego goes slow and then stops.

It's possible the contacts on the battery are bent, so when the trains moves the contacts lose connection with the battery.
remove the battery, paying attention to whether or not the contacts are tight on the battery. Use a small screwdriver to bend the contact out, so it pushes on the battery with more force. You may need to fold up a small piece of foil and put it behind the tag to keep contact with the battery.Typically there is a spring on one side of the contact and a small copper tag on the other. if the tag cannot be bent outward, you may need to use a pair of needlenose pliers to stretch the spring out -be careful though, you could break the plastic mount for the spring which would ruin the train and give you one unhappy conductor!
Hope this helps and thanks for using Fixya!!

Help please. Lionel (30190) Thomas & Friends remote O gauge. Train won't move. Light comes no, nothing. I took the roof off and made sure the switch was in the on position. ??

First, check to make certain that the batteries in the remote are good.
Second, if the train has been running and the problem is new, clean your wheels and pick up roller on the locomotive, then clean the track.
Make certain that when you use the remote, you orient the antenna in an upright position and are within 6 to 8 feet of the locomotive.
If none of the above helps, contact the Lionel Service Department.

Peg perego train only goes backwards, but doesnt have a reverse and forward button. please help

funny, you can fix this real easily, you just need to flip flop the cables on the motor, currently the polarity is reversed, theres only two wires connected to the motor just switch them around

My thomas the train ride on toy wont move unless you assist it by turning the wheel after pressing the go button

A few things can cause this: The battery is weak/bad. The connector at the battery might be worn out and have intermittent contact. Those are fairly easy things to check. Next, the GO button might be worn out internally (high resistance contacts)-believe it or not, the whole motor current goes through that switch. You would need to remove top of the roof to access the button. Or, open the speaker cover, pull out the control board and bypass Go switch wires to check for train proper operation. As you are already there, inspect the control/sound board. The last thing that comes to my mind is the motor itself, it is under the seat. Check contacts to motor, plus you can spray contact cleaner or, if you don't have anything else, alcohol. Avoid using WD40 - it does the job, but collects new dirt very very fast). There is always a chance of pinched/loose wire, or mechanical problem with gear assembly/jamming or so.

Peg Perego Thomas Train Track Rider

Hi

Have you tried keep pressing the right hand button down. When you press the button down and hold the press, then the sounds are finished, the trains starts driving. When you release the button the train stops at once.

I cannot promise that this is the problem, but this is where mine was broken, and you may be able to fix yours this way.

I was able to remove the plastic around the tender and access the motor. Using alligator clips, I was able to connect the battery directly to the motor, bypassing the circuit board. The motor functioned, therefore the only component that seemed to be defective was the circuit board, located behind the speaker in the engine unit.

As far as I know, the only place to buy a replacement circuit board is from www.tigerimports.com. Search for part number MEVA0024. Cost is around $15 + shipping (around $6 or so).

I should be receiving this part by the end of the week and will report if it fixed the problem.

The red button on the right must be held down for anything to move. It turns the lights on, makes some train noises, then moves forward. If you don't hold the button down, nothing will happen. Note that when the train is underway, the left red button becomes a train whistle. Otherwise, when the train is not running, that left button produces music. Hope this helps.
