When I pop in a disk the green light blinks for some time and then nothing happens. My drive is on E: and when I click on it in windows explorer, it prompts to insert a disk. But interestingly, it eventually read a couple of dvds from my collection (actually DVD-Rs). So first I thought it was a hardware failure but since it read a couple of dvds, now I am not so sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Very simple: push the lazer back to it's starting position!
What did I do and what hapend?
I know this is an old topic, but a lot of people are still experiencing this problem.
My problem is that I'm Dutch, so the English grammar or spelling isn't 100% perfect.
Anyway. My DVD Writer/reader made this weird *click click click*-sound when I pushed in a DVD. Writing was OK but reading didn't work anymore. I reinstalled Windows (went back from Vista to XP) and this problem wasn't solved.
This image is an example image and might not be the same as your CD-DVD player!
You have your DVD-reader (see image above). Open it (press the Eject-button).
Now, push the lazer back to the beginning of your DVD reader (I know, it's wrong for some reason.. but my reader didn't work anyway!). So, push it back to the center where the spinning wheel-thingy is.
Put back in your DVD and this might work!
AFTER ALL THIS I DID THE SECOND THING. MAYBE AN IMPORTANT THING TO DO!!!
--> CLEAN THE LAZER AND THE WHOLE PART WHERE THE SPINNING WHEEL-thingy is.
So, if you opened it (eject), clean that whole part.
I used a CLEAN towell (just the corner of it), spit on that corner and cleaned the lazer.
IT worked!!!!!!!!!!!
