2" black horizontal line appears on paper when I fax, print,

When I receive a fax there are no issues. When I send a fax. print, or scan and print, I get a 2" solid black line that is horizontal and runs from top of page to bottom. I purchased a brand new fax/copy/printer as I thought the issue was with my old fax machine, however, even with my new fax, the black line is still there. Can you help?

Check the wondow where the paper passes to be scanned. You will probably find some debris or white out stuck on the glass. That is usually the cause of vertical lines on sent faxes.

Don't know what kind of printer you are using.
Most likely cause of a line from top to bottom is dirt on the small
glass strip. Lift the top cover so that you can see the flat bed scanner glass.
Now look to the left. There should be a thin strip of glass.
Clean it with a damp cloth.

Horizontal line on printed page

When you use the flatbed the copy is perfect because the ccd sensor is under the glass cover and obviously is free form dust/ dirt.
On the other hand if you use the feeder the ccd sensor is located in between the roller assembly (not sure exactly for this model).
This means that the page is scanned by the ccd in the feeder, any dirt on the ccd will appear as a black line. I assume that you are feeding papers from the side and not from the top that is why you get a horizontal line.

A quick test to see if the ccd sensor is dirty is to feed the paper from the top side to the feeder. If you get a vertical line it is a proof that your ccd sensor needs to be cleaned.
The worst case is that the sensor in the feeder assembly has a tiny spot that is damaged and it is causing the black line.
So , first try the test, then open the feeder assembly, locate the ccd and clean it. Hope that this helps.

My brother MFC 8500 is receiving alright but everything I send out has a big black streak going down the right side of the page. Confirmation page also has big black streak.

Let me see if I got this right.

The received fax is clean but when you send one out it has a black streak on it.
Cool! So far so good.
Makes sense because for sending, the fax scans the original document and parts of the scanning area could be dirty and so on. Therefore a black streak may appear.
The same black streak would also appear when you make a copy, because the original document must also be scanned.
Logical!

However for receiving faxes, the machine uses the internal memory and the print engine only, and the same applies to printing the transaction report, which comes from inside via the print engine.
The scanner has no rol in either situation.

Now I'm lost!

The HP Officejet 6500 will now only print color copies, the black copies do not print, the officejet does not recognize the request to scan copies, the officejet will send faxes and show a fax is being...

not ridiculous as the new printer costs less than replacement cartridges
check for ink in the black cartridge
check that the driver is still connected
check for compatibility with the pc

Be sure to have a noise filter on the ADSL line so the line quality is good enough to send and receive faxes.

3 black smudge horizontal lines on prints

Your brother can send faxes without printing the pages try your computer just you should download the driver.

You can download the driver from this link: " http://download.cnet.com/Brother-MFC-8220-USB/3000-2118_4-65318.html ".

About the lines which appear on the print, you will have to buy a Drum unit for your Brother 575, because the drum cleaning blade has quit working and there is no other way to fix this only by putting a new drum unit.

note:
the drum unit is different from the toner cartridge, but if you search good you can find them together for lower price.

Black mark on right side of paper

The scanner is not working properly, not the printer part of the unit.
The LED array is not lighting causing black scanned prints.
Resolder the contacts in the LED array...probaly a cold solder joint.
