My Maytag Plus side by side is cold in the freezer but not cold enough in the refrig part despite turning the refrig control to a colder setting. No air seems to be blowing out of the air circulator vent.

This is usually a problem with evaporator fan not turning when the unit is running.check the freezer compartment and listen to the fan if it running. if it is not running it needs to be replaced.one good indication is ice or frost build up on the rear of the freezer compartment

SOURCE: Frigidaire side/side refri section warm

Oceanrunner, it looks like a couple of things might be going on: One is how much defrosting did you do. If it was a full defrost, you might have too many door openings going on. This causes condensation. Do a full defrost and then be sure the door is closed when not actually getting things in/out. Don't forget to check to see if your condenser coils are clean. If not, clean 'em! That may fix it.

It is possible that your defrost timer is defective but I think not based on your defrost cycle starting. It is possible that the defrost coil is bad. This means that you'll have to access the coil and check if for continuity. Typically, this is located with the coils and below them in the back of the freezer. One wire on each side. Unplug the box...Wiggle 'em to clear any corrosion... Unplug..If you've got a multimeter, check for about 100 ohms between the terminals...You can then turn the unit on and wait. See what happens. If frosting begins, actuate the defrost cycle. (Frosting should be even after about 5 minutes or so across they pipes. If the gas level is low, the frosting will not be even.)

Some cold water units run through the coils. If they get too cold...they freeze. This is caused by low gas or by frosting from other sources. Don't panic: this unit has an extended warranty on the sealed unit...the compressor and all that...for 5 years. That means the gas, too. Call your manufacturer for service.

SOURCE: refrig & freezer not cold enough; ice forming; low air volume

If ice/frost is building up on the back wall of the freezer then you have a defrost system failure.

Defrost system; Evap Fan, Heater, Thermo disk, Timer.

Evap Fan - this should be running all the time except when it goes into defrost mode.

Defrost Timer - This part is hard to locate on some models, a call to a parts place with the model number can help you find it and tell you if this is the type you can mannualy turn to put in the defrost mode. If you can do this, take the back panel off in the freezer so you can see the cooling coils. The heater should be red hot and melting the ice. If so, replace the timer. If not, you need an OHM meter to check the heater and therma disk.

Un plug the Ref, locate the heater, usually looks like a heating element in an oven and runs across the bottom of the coils. Touch the meter leads to each end of the heater. If no reading, replace.

Therma Disk - located close to where the coils enter the freezer, small round disk clipped to the coils. Check the same as the heater but, you won't get a good reading unless the temp is below freezing. Any doubt, just replace, it's not that expensive.

This is a lot to do, hope this helps.

SOURCE: "maytag plus wide by side is not getting cold enough"

The defrost thermostat is failing on these machines as well as the adaptive defrost control.
The compressor start relay is on recall from Maytag also.

SOURCE: GE GSS22 refrig wont get cold, freezer does.

Hi, it's possible you have a defrost problem, to know if you have a defrost problem, you should unplug/disconnect refrigerator, remove your produce, leave doors open, for faster defrost, clean and leave unplug/disconnected for about hour, be cautious you will get excessive water from defrosting. let freezer defrost completely, then plug/connect refrigerator, let it work/run for an hour, if it's o/k, put back your produce, if it work good/ o/k for 3 to 4 days and start doing the same thing, you got a defrost problem, defrost problems are caused when excessive ice build up on your evaporator, two things could cause a defrost problem. (1) excessive moisture/ hot air entering refrigerator, hot days, hot foods, regular opening, to close heat source, range/ oven. in cases like that, cleaning of refrigerator will normally solve that problem. (2) faulty defrost heaters, defrost thermostat , located in back of freezer side, you will have to remove shelves and back panel, to get access to it,also check your defrost timer and speed of fan, but first disconnect refrigerator, clean and try , before changing any parts. it could just be excessive moisture. always remember to disconnect your refrigerator before attempting any repairs, let me know what happened, then i could tell you exactly what's problem. good luck

SOURCE: Food in refrig crispers freezes. Top of freezer too warm.

Good day,
You are right about it being little or no air circulation. There is a fan motor in the freezer, which you can access by removing the rear panel of the freezer panel.
That's the good news. The bad news it is a DC variable speed motor controlled thru a thermistor and powered from the motherboard located in the back wall of the refrigerator.
You can remove and take the motor to an appliance parts house that deals in GE parts. If they determine the motor is bad, then you could effect a repair.
If not the machine is too complex, and some parts so expensive that repair is best left to a GE qualified pro.

My GE TFX30PP is constantly running and doesn't turn off. The freezer is very cold but the frig side isn't cold enough. A repair guy put in a new "cold contol" sensor but it didn't help.

This is a very common issue, If the freezer compartment is cold and making ice the
problem is simply airflow from the freezer into the refrigerated section.
Typically when one senses the refrigerator is warm they max out the settings
on both dials the thermostat with its 1-10 settings as well as off for the compressor.
This controls the compressor and temperature.
The additional setting or dial is for colder freezer or refrigerator as well , However
it simply opens or closes a flapper door between the freezer and refrigerator boxes.
When that dial or setting is maxed , it closes and makes the freezer colder, yet leaves the refrigerated section starved for sufficient airflow to maintain a cold box in the refrigerated section.
Just set the dial that does not turn the compressor off to the middle setting.
One can leave the thermostat that does control the compressor in the max setting , just not the colder freezer setting, If you notice colder isnt colder refrigerator, Its actually colder freezer, A common issue found on 25% of all refrigerator calls a simple setting adjustment.
Its easy to think that maxing out the settings makes for a colder refrigerator, it doesnt, it makes a colder freezer and warm rerigeration section.
If a freezer is making ice, theres nothing wrong with the unit other than airflow setting.
I would also clesan the condenser coils off.

Hi..our maytag msd2351HE side by side is only making small amounts of ice..we are able to get water..Any suggestions?

I would suggest pulling the refrig out and removing the lower panel . On the right , there is a black box ( condensor ) . The fan pulls air thru the coils and dust , lint , etc , can block the air flow , causing the freezer to not get cold enough ( 5 degrees ) for the ice maker to work . Also check to make sure the fan there is working . If the fan is working and the coils are clean , try turning the freezer control slightly colder . If the fan is not working , replace the fan motor .

The fridge does not seem to be cold.

if just the refrige isnt cold, check the damper door located between the freezer and refrige compartments and see if its open to let in cold air from freezer,if not sometimes they freeze shut and cant operate with temperature setting changes/if nothings cold, then replace the ptc overload relay located on the compressor body,it just unplugs off the compressor

Frig is turned down to low and everything is still freezing. Ice maker not making ice.

icemaker not working because to cold in freezer;water transfer tube frozen and will need to be deiced, but first must solve refrig. to cold, making freezer to cold, thermostat problem which is common it is a presure filled and in time can loose presure and will run colder, some have adjustment scew with arrows warmer or colder adust warmer and only turn a 1/4 turn or less until you get in middle of dail range. or replace thermostat. refrig. temp. should be 38 to 40 degrees frenhiet. freezer no colder then 0.
