DVD players normally don't have amps built into them. If you need to connect the DVD to amp (AV) then it will need to be connected either via an RF lead connected via RCA sockets marked RF OUT on the DVD player and one on the AV marked RF IN. If the AV has an optical in, then you can connect the DVD to that for better quality sound. You might also need to change the sound output settings on the DVD player to the correct one you are using.
Missing speaking sounds are the result of a lack of a centre channel speaker. If your AV doesn't have one. Then you will have to use the stereo only setting.
If the DVD player is only currently connected via the standard RCA left and right jacks, you will only get stereo sound.
SOURCE: Need fiber optic input jack for Onkyo TX-DS575
Had it ever worked, or are you setting it up for the first time?
Have you ASSIGNED the digital input in the menu?
SOURCE: no sound from fiber optic 2 jack hooked to a blu ray
IN THE RECEIVER YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE TYPE OF SOURCE YOU ARE USING (EXAMPLE DIGITAL OPT) AND SOMETIME YOU MIGHT HAVE TO CHANGE IT ALSO IN THE BLU RAY PLAYER TO DIGITAL OPT
SOURCE: hooked up blueray player and fiber optical cable
You need to assign the digital input for the optical cable (page 21 of the manual).
SOURCE: I HOOKED UP THE AUDIO
You don't state how you have connected it but even with an analogue cable the sound should be better than your TV speakers, unless you have fantastic TV speakers, so something else is wrong however yes it should be better with as the full stereo surround signal is (if supported by your cable box) is transmitted digitally over the cable, so any analogue problems such as bad connections etc will be eliminated. I would not however buy a cable until you figure out whether there is a problem with your cable box or the Bose, do you have access to another source and connecting cable you could try first? Also go into the cable box menu and check if the sound out is correctly configured. Please rate my reply. Thanks
If your TV does not have any audio output jacks, you can connect the CineMate™ speaker
system to the audio output jacks of another source, such as a DVD player or cable/satellite
box. However, you will hear sound only from the connected source through your CineMate
speakers.
