What year was my Greener GP 12 gauge shotgun made serial number is T12381

Might Help

English Shotguns
While researching this I came across this bit of info on the GP.

GP is is for Gaffer or General purpose shotgun. According to Greeners book the exact number of GP shotguns made is impossible to be determined as the serial numbers of these shotguns were not recorded until 1968.

If your gun is a Police gun then the serial number look up I did for you is correct. If your gun is a GP then it's not possible to determine the date made by serial number.

Two models of GP are referenced. Standard model has no checkering and a barrel band. The second model had a better finish, checkering and looked more like a sporting weapon,

The Greener Story by Graham Greener has a lot more on this gun and other Greener arms. The book is a bit spendy but I have found it quite useful in my Martini hobby. There are contradictions in the book. The text makes no mention of a MK designation in GP's. It refers to the checkered version as Model number 2. You should be able to look at the side of the action and see what it says to determine if you have GP or a police gun.

I have a question on a 775a Savage.

Hello Stephen Godfrey...

I have a SAVAGE pump...
That I have had since I was young
( long time gone (at that time it was old))...

When one of my "friends" felt compelled to DRY-Fire it...
(which I was trained to NEVER do) the firing pin emerged from the BOLT.. and stuck (in such a way as to crush the primer well before the BOLT would be locked (I poured my favorite gun-smiths
sources... and contacted my munitions mentors... BITTERLY COMPLAINING about my inability to get any meaningful numbers ...

With some fiddling... measuring and looking in SAVAGE
catalogs... I was informed that I had a PRE 1958...
model 30, 12 gauge
... and to concern myself no
further about the TOTAL LACK OF ANY NUMBERS...

Savage DIDN'T do NUMBERS on shot-guns previous
to 1958
.

They ordered my new FIRING PIN... and it fit perfectly.

We all lived happily ever after.

The END.

Stevens model 311a,where is the serial number. I can not find one.

All the Stevens factory guns made from 1948 till the passage of the Gun Control Act (requiring serial numbers) had a date code roughly stamped on the center bottom of the action either just in front of the trigger guard or just behind the hinge. The stamp is a letter for the year and a number for the month of manufacture, stamped inside of a circle or oval. "A" represents 1948 and each succeeding alphabet letter represents the next year. "O" and "Q" were not used.

I don't know what the letter codes on the action flats mean. The 311A is a model number; there were several letters used with the number 311 to identify the various small changes in the gun over the many years of production..
