Presumably, you have an "internal" hard-drive that the BIOS is detecting.

If it is the _only_ disk-drive in your computer, remove it,
and temporarily connect it as a "slave" drive in some other computer.
Then:

Click: Start
Click: Control Panel
Click: Classic View
Click: Administrative Tools
Click: Computer Management
Click: Storage
Click: Disk Management (Local)

Does the drive show there? Is it listed as "Healthy" ?
Does it have a drive-letter assigned?

HDD NOT WORKING PERFECTLY

I'm confused. Is the maxtor drive 250GB? Have you partition it to 30GB? Or is it that the computer only reads 30GB instead of 250GB? Does this drive have Windows on it? Also you might want to check your BIOS (Motherboard input/output system) by pressing Del key or F12 and see if this drive is the startup Drive. If you don't have Windows on this drive, make sure it is NOT the startup drive. Hope this helps.

How to install windows it's showing there is no hard disk in the system pls help me

If the BIOS does not detect the hard disk, then reseat the hard disk and then check the BIOS again.
The hard disk maybe faulty, if so you need a replacement.
If the BIOS detects the hard disk and you are installing Windows XP then -
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

PXE-61: Media Test failure, check cable

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Driver does not install atomatically

With the computer off, plug the unit in to the computer and turn it on.

Now start the computer, there is no driver to install manually, windows
uses generic drivers to detect plug n play devise's.

Out of hundreds of computers, the only time I have not seen a hard
drive detected was because the hard drive was bad, and the others
where hacked versions of windows, called lite xp, or the chipset drivers
where not loaded because someone just installed windows but nothing else.

You can look through your bios for plug n play, but its probably set to auto.

Most external HD's take a while to be detected from 10 seconds up to a few minutes.

If the driver does not install automatically, what driver are you installing
that you get it to work ??????????????????????????

My maxtor D740X-6l 40GB drive will not boot up. I can hook the drive up to another computer and read the files but it will not even show as a drive on the original computer. The first computer recognizes...

Hello,

all you have to do is to simply set the jumper at the back of he hard disk, beside where the IDE cable and power enter into the hard disk.

Just keep setting till you put at the right position where the system recognizes it.

There is nothing wrong with your PC and hard drive, just set the jumper of the Hard disk and that should be all.

Take care.

I delete all the partitions from my hard disk. i didn't make partition.when i restart the system, msg came that nofixed drive present.bios don't dectect my hard disc.my hard disc is maxtor d540x-4k. how can...

Assuming this was your only hard disk, there is nothing on the disk for the BIOS to boot from. You need to boot from the installation disk for your operating system. The OS installer will then let you create a partition and install to it.
