Need switch for colman a/c unit

I have been looking for a switch for a colman a/c unit. It is for a camper and it is old and the manufacture said the switch is no longer made and they have no subsitute. the switch part number is 6250a3311. I know the switch has 5 conecting points on back. The color of the wires are 1 blue, 1 black, 1 red, and 2 orange. Here are the modle numbers the switch will fit on 6248, 6250, 6258, and 6259. the switch turns the fan on high or low and also turns the a/c unit on max or normal. If you have any sugestions of a difrent kind of switch that will work and how to wire it that would be a big help to me. One more thing it is just a a/c unit no heat. thank

Jason, if you are willing to to a little wire tracing, you can do this! We're going to create a new switch function. Chances are that two of the wires are probably for the fan motor (high and low). I'm not sure about max and normal. This uses a two position switch. Figure out which wires go where...then...get a '3 way' switch from the hardware store (they contain a common and two 'poles') along with a plastic box to contain them, a double switch cover and some 'heavy duty zip cord'. This is lamp cord but a heavier grade called number 16 or number 14 (14 preferred). Extend each of the wires and tape the connections. Now, threading the wires into the power box, hook the two fan wires that come to the switch to the new switch. Now, the common terminals and the power supply wire (probably the black) should be hooked together. It should all work...ugly but functional. If you need an on/off switch, you can make that a three gang box and include a standard on/off switch. If you can figure out the max/normal function, you can either switch it on or off or either/or...depending on the switch function. Hope this helps.

Finding information on something that old is difficult but what you would have to do is look for a kick panel or false wall panel being held on by some wood screws. For the unit you have, most likely along the floor. Most I have seen with more modern campers would be near a sink, fridge or bed. If yours has a take that turns into a bed, try checking for a panel under the cushions or along the footboards under that area. Use a good LED flashlight for best visibility. A hint about access panels, if the screw head is an unusual style or square button look, most likely it wasn't meant to be accessible where screws with the typical #2 Phillips or cross-tip are there for general access at any time. if it is a programmable thermostat you can unhook thermostat and when it comes on select 3 instead of 1. As it sounds as though it is short cycling this happens in older houses with drafts. Hope this helps Tim

Have you cleaned the unit? The condenser coil? The filter? The evapartor coil? Sounds like an airflow problem. You need to clean these areas. You can clean the condensor coil with water hose and a coil brush you can get at the hardware store. Clean the evaparator with the same brush. YOU can use a hairbrush if you don't have anything else. But make sure you go up and down on the fins on the coils not sideways. You might check your blower fan for dirt also. Good luck I hope I helped you. Could also be low on charge but first try cleaning.

its good to put them in, as it will keep dust from building up on the coils, thus reducing cooling.just buy some filter material at any hardware store, coarse, like a sponge, not fine paper stuff.
