Hi yesterday i plugged my Canon vixia hv30 (HD) into my windows vista computer and it worked fine it said installing drivers and i captured the footage fine. then today i filmed and plugged it in again and when i opened up premiere cs4 video capture and the computer crashed. then when i turned my computer back on and plugged in my camcorder and it didn't work. on the camcorder screen it shows that it is connected to the computer but the computer won't recognize it. and in Premiere cs4 it says capture device offline. Please help
You may have used a different USB port on the computer. Try a different one.
Generally, any USB port would work, except that some devices create a "Virtual USB" connection that is configured with a specific USB port.

ok, then here is the fix:
UNPLUG the camcorder from the computer.
1. Right click [My Computer]
[Manage]
[Device Manager]
In the right windows, you will see yellow indicator on the port that the camcorder uses.
RIGHT-CLICK on it and select "uninstall" and allow it to do so.
(you should reboot, but sometimes you don't have to)
Close the Device manager, etc.
Power ON the camcorder, wait for it to startup.
Plug in the USB cable from the camcorder to a convenient USB port on the computer and allow the computer to "install" the port...
You don't need any drivers or CD for this.
Hope this works for you.
Ahhh, yes... A USB connector on the computer is different from a Firewire (also called a 1394) port on the computer....
Find the Firewire port on the computer and use that...
