You may have used a different USB port on the computer. Try a different one.
Generally, any USB port would work, except that some devices create a "Virtual USB" connection that is configured with a specific USB port.

Let us know if this helped...

ok, then here is the fix:

UNPLUG the camcorder from the computer.

    1. Right click [My Computer]

    [Manage]

    [Device Manager]

In the right windows, you will see yellow indicator on the port that the camcorder uses.

RIGHT-CLICK on it and select "uninstall" and allow it to do so.

(you should reboot, but sometimes you don't have to)

    Close the Device manager, etc.

Power ON the camcorder, wait for it to startup.

Plug in the USB cable from the camcorder to a convenient USB port on the computer and allow the computer to "install" the port...

You don't need any drivers or CD for this.

    Hope this works for you.

Ahhh, yes... A USB connector on the computer is different from a Firewire (also called a 1394) port on the computer....

Find the Firewire port on the computer and use that...

Macbook pro doesnt recognize my canon vixia hv30

Try a different cable, the one you're using may have got damaged.
Check the firewire driver is installed and running on the Mac.
If the camera came with software, try re-installing it.
Good luck.

I recorded a MiniDV with a HD camera the Canon HV30 to be specific. When trying to play it back on my Canon zr950 i get an error message. Will my tape only playback on an HD video camera? What do I do?

Canon ZR950 is an older Standard Definition camera that records in DV format, and does not recognize HDV format recorded by HV30.

HV30 can be switched to DV format, which should be playable on ZR950.

I have a Canon Vixia HV30. My computer is an HP

There are some free ware PC video capturing programs. Be aware, you get what you pay for.
I would try going to Microcenter's or Best Buy's web sites and seeing whats available.

Need Canon Vixia HV30 driver

If you have windows xp or higher you don't need drivers just an intel based pc, atleast 1 or 2 gigs of memory and try it with the software that came with it...if you dont like that make SURE your version of adobe works with the HDV format....make sure your settings IN the software program are correct...and viola!...MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING A FIREWIRE 4 TO 4 OR 4 TO 6 PIN CABLE no exceptions

Canon vixia hv 30 not recognized by computer

This camcorder uses USB for pictures only. To access pictures, plug in USB cable, set the camcorder to Play and to Memory Card.

To transfer video you need a firewire cable and card. Actual cable will depend on connection your computer has, typically it will be something like this: FireWire_cables.jpg

Additionally, to transfer video you will need a video capture software and codecs, unless the software has the codecs (Nero does). Unfortunately all free video editing software I tried was unable to deal with HD. I had various levels of success with Windows Movie Makver, Ulead and Nero.

You may want to record video in non-HD, and see if you are able to capture that. If your computer can capture that but not HD, and you have the codecs installed, you will need to investigate your computer.

If all you need is a codec, here is a good free candidate: K-Lite Mega Codec Pack

It is of course very frustrating that Canon would include nothing with the camcorder to assist users with video caputure.

My Mac does not recognize my Canon HV 30 DV when i connect the FireWire.

I've been around the block with this for days, including a fresh installation of the software on my MacBook Pro. Sigh.

Here's what seemed to work:

1) Reset Vixia HV30 (tiny reset button behind the battery). Did not change any settings on the camera after that.

2) Installed Canon's software that dropped some canon-related files in Library/Quicktime folder.

3) Opened new iMovie 6.0.3 and Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1 projects (a) FCE (using Easy Setup in FCE) to Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 (b) iMovie 'HDV 1080i'.

4) Connected 4-pin --> 6-pin firewire cable out of the camera to a bus-powered external drive and from the drive, firewire 800 --> firewire 800 --> MacBook Pro 10.5.8.

This was a last-ditch, Hail Mary effort. It worked, and the camera showed up in the System Profiler firewire window, too, whereas it had not before all of the above. Still does not show up when hooked directly from the camera to the FW 800 input, but at least I can capture now.
