SOURCE: tv turns off after 15 minutes of use
For bobby11 and luis, it is the power supply. Part Number EAY34797001 in the 42" and EAY34796801 in the 32". This is a known problem, and somebody should start a Class Action against LG over this one. Part is available online and easy to swap out for anyone with the most basic knowledge.

I
know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've
described can't be fixed with troubleshooting.
Your TV
will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect
and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be
repaired at no charge to you. The warranty would likely be at least
one year from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. If you
purchased an extended service
plan
they will repair the TV at no charge as well.
If the TV is no
longer in warranty, it will likely cost a minimum of $150 parts and
labor. This is assuming that you only need one circuit
board
or small part. If the problem is more than one of the circuit boards,
the price of repair could go much higher.
I hope I've provided
you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an
informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to

today.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Hi Bruce Barnes, weI want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
Did a white smoke come out when pop sound occurred ?
please also add who makes the TV / Model number. Sounds like an issue with the Power Supply board without any more details
It is a Mitsubishi DLP WD-65733. I was not in the room when it occured so I don't know about the smoke but I think my wife would have mentioned it it there had been. I suspected the power supply board I wanted to check to see if it might be a bad DPL lamp.
