Bowing top and bottom temporary on cold TV

We bought a Pioneer SD-P50A3 TV from our neighbour. All works great except for when we first turn it on. It bows blue and yellow at the top and bottom of the screen. This can last from 10 minutes to a few hours and then the bowing disappears and the picture is fine. The TV did not have this problem when the neighbour had it. It is only a matter of 75 feet but it was set down many times as they carried it over soft ground. Could something have been knocked out of place during the move from his house to mine? I have heard that this brand of Pioneer is not user friendly.

Convergence problem

This is a convergence problem that is not likely to be caused by anyone hitting the TV. Since striking the set appeared to "fix" it, it suggests that the problem is a connection one rather than a failure of an electronic part. If you can solder, you should be able to repair this yourself. First try resolcdering the pins on the convergence ICs. These are large black ICs attached to a heatsink. They should be marked STKxxx. If the resoldering does not resolve the problem, replace the ICs with new ones.

Keep us posted on your progress.
