If swapping of left and right input sources and left and right speakers does not help...you might have a bad channel in your amp.

SOURCE: I have a Aiwa Stereo Receiver Av-D58. The sound

If I remember this model correctly, there is only 1 direct input. The remainder of the inputs are bufferred through a switching IC. It is likely that this IC is defective. Are there any other symptoms at all?

Thanks,
Dan

SOURCE: NAD 7130 FM stereo signal (on off again and again)

The contacts in the A B speaker selector switch had degraded on my NAD 7130 receiver. Distortion and signal loss would come and go. Contact cleaner and wriggling the swx knob became useless. Then, years ago I jumped the swx with small lengths of bare wire and tinned the whole thing with solder. Never had a problem since and it probably improved the receiver because it eliminated a component in the output stage that could (and did) introduce distortion.

In Stereo Direct the analogue sound is directly routed to the amplifiers. In all the other ways the signal is digitized (if it ain't already) then modified digitally in a very specialized processor. In your case that processor has just died. It can't be repaired and you must replace the entire board it's soldered on to fix that - it will be expensive.
Why it has failed ? I don't know, but, since it's a processor, even the smallest electrostatic shock is enough.

I get static and distortion in Stereo mode.

if you are reffering to a radio fm receiver, the issue is the signal strength is too low.so the multiplex transmission cannot be correctly unscrambled.mono reduces the cross channel interference.
use a high gain 12 db or above external vhf antenna to solve this problem

My AG-V3050 pro-logic receiver seems to have a volume control issue. The test mode volume works fine but when I switch it to fm the sound is very weak, I have to crank it all the way up to get a little...

Hi
Two dump question and than recommendation..
  • First ;During listening FM ,Your " MUTE" switch is "ON" or "OFF" ? if not how about plain STEREO mode ? did you try it ?
  • Second..how about the other Modes , i.e ..CD ,DVD etc. ? same problem or it happens only in FM ?
ok..now the possible solution;
sometimes FM stations do not properly triggers pro-logic circuit and cause such problem and you need to switch to STEREO or A.F.D mode to listen FM (AFM includes sub woofer)..
This is true for FM only and it should not happen in other modes as DVD ,CD,Phone etc..
Hope this helps!..if more help requires pls let me know.
Take care and please

NAD T-763 receiver. cannot get surround sound. all speakers work. should the 7.1 and or surround be connected to the receiver and what else. stereo works fine....two front speakers, in stereo mode. ...

Have you looked at the manual? There is no internal source that would produce 7.1 audio other than the test tones. Attach a multichannel source according to ITS manual.

Distorted sounds

The AT-PL120 uses a magnetic cartridge to extract a music signal from the record. Magnetic cartridges all put out a very weak electric signal, and so their output must be strengthened, or amplified, to where it is as strong as the input from, say, a CD player. This amplification is provided by a pre-amp. If your receiver has dedicated "phono" inputs the pre-amp circuits are already in the receiver. If you do not have dedicated phono inputs you must either buy a pre-amp, or buy a magnetic cartridge turntable with a pre-amp built into itself. The AT-PL120 has a built in pre-amp. You can switch the AT-PL120's preamp on or off. The switch is located under the platter at the back side of the turntable. Take the platter mat off and turn one of the platter's holes to the back and you should see the switch through the hole. If you push the switch to LINE OUT the preamp is turned on and the turntable sends an amplified cartridge signal out the cables which MUST be connected to a receiver inout suitable for a CD player (a "high level" input). If you push the pre-amp selector switch to PHONO OUT the turntable sends the weak unstrengthened cartridge signal out the cables which MUST be connected to the receiver's dedicated PHONO inputs so the signal can be amplified with the receiver's own pre-amp circuits.

If everything is set wrong (i.e. LINE OUT (pre-amp on), and connected to phono inputs) you are applying two steps of strengthening to the turntable's signal which is too much. The resultant sound will be garbled. Try not to do this!

The other way to do everything wrong is set the pre-amp switch to PHONO OUT (pre-amp off) and connect the turntable's cables to a high level input. If this happens the turntable signal receives no amplification and the resultant sound will be thin and weak.

NAD C740 no longer reproducing music through loudspeakers

what was your amp? ic or transistorized? the output transistor of your amp may be opened, mostly it will short but because u still hear sound, maybe open and only the driver transistor are working. replacing output transistor or IC could solve the problem.
