Whirlpool MH6151XHT-1 - No Power - Stumped

Over the Range Microwave went dead while exhaust fan only was running. No power at all going to unit. Control board has no function working or showing signs of power. In the inside of the computer control panel there is a wiring diagram, and based on the wiring and testing criteria; the thermal fuse, capacitor, diode, fan motor, and on the transformer, the primary and filament wiring test ok. I didn't test the secondary wiring of the transformer, as it is covered with a tape protective covering.

There is a MGT THERMAL FUSE shown in the wiring diagram, but I can't find it. Could that be the issue?

The secondary switch didn't doesn't appear to make contact with the door, so I held the switch down, and still no power to the unit. This might be an auxillary problem.

Is it possible that the $175 control board is dead? How do I test it for sure?

Any other ideas?

This one has been a learning experience for me, as this isn't my cup of tea. This board has been very helpful, and I hope someone can help me.

In my description it says I tested the thermal fuse as ok. I meant the ceramic fuse - not thermal, but electric. The ceramic fuse has continuity.

First change all the fuse and check whether it works or not, if it does not work than as per your finding the secondary transformer could be the issue, the secondary transformer tap down the voltage fro 230-240/110 to required control board voltage. the best thing if the unit is opened then the right problem can be found but as per your description either fuses are faulty or the secondary transformer.

Hi I have a Samsung SMH9187 micowave that is dead (no display, light, fan, mirowave).

Sounds like the main fuse blew. It's either near where the power cord enters the cabinet, or behind the control panel (if an over the range unit).

You may also have some type of failure in the high voltage circuit; based on your description of the symptoms.

Hood light & exhaust fan not working

You have no power to the unit. Breaker is out or the hot wires into the hood has come apart. The wires coming into the unit usually terminated in a junction box next to the fan housing.
Teas it for power an/or reset breaker.

The vent fan on my over the range Whirlpool microwave (mh1150xmq-0) runs any time I use the microwave (as if I have turned the vent fan on "low"). This doesn't seem to affect cooking, but it...

You either have a shorted exhaust fan thermostat or a shorted fan relay on the control circuit board.

While we regularly repair these controllers by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one-year guarantee, or you can order a new control circuit board (part number) from the Pros here, we strongly suggest that you or someone you know check the exhaust fan thermostat first.

It should read "open" on a continuity (ohms) test. If it reads closed (shorted) it is bad and the fan will run all the time.

Or you can simply unplug the oven's power, disconnect one lead from the thermostat, tape it over to prevent shorting, then plug the oven back in. If the fan still comes on, the problem is on the board. If it does not, the thermostat is shorted.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

I have a Whirlpool model MH6151XHT-1 which has two light bulbs. The cavity light quit working in either high or low. Upon checking the lamps, one was bad. I switched the socket position of the good lamp...

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

The main power fuse inside the MW may have been blown from the steam shorting out the circuitry. If so this fuse probably can be replaced. Lowes has replacement fuses.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

The fuse and magnetron thermostat can be checked without pulling the oven form the wall.

But if you need to check the cavity thermostat, the oven will need to be removed from the wall, and it helps if you still have the installation instructions.

Whirlpool customer service is here and you can also enter your model number on that page to download your owner's manual, installation instructions, etc..

Fuse keeps blowing.

couple questions -
what else is on the circuit,
and what current does the oven need

there are whirlpool over-range models with
1200watts of microwave,
1500watts of convection power, a
60watt bulb and a
375watt fan

over 15amps -20amp circuit needed

if you inadvertantly replaced a higher current fuse with a 15amp fuse, it will blow every time.
the install guide http://www.whirlpool.com/assets/pdfs/product/ZINSTALL/8206589.pdf reccommends 20amp
not a solution, something to check,
